I purchased the DEI 545t nite lite module and I need some advice.

Basically, when it gets dark, a 12v, 30A source is switched and powers the headlights. The manual states this 30a wire is connected driectly to the headlight 'powered when switched from the main switch wire'.

The question I have is this.....if the 30a feed is coming from the 545t module, what happens if I switched on the lights using the switch thereby sending another 12v feed....

If the answer is nothing will happen then no problems, Ill wire as per instructions but I think I may need a relay setup like the one attached to change between power sources depending on whats being used to switch.

Sorry, had to revise diagram as the dei 545t trigger is -ve output....

So basic Question is - if the module is sending 12v-30a to the headlights because its dark enough and the main light switch is used to send another 12v-30a, is this a problem?

If it is, will the relay diagram above resolve the issue?

no, unless youre using another independent source, then you have to worry that its wired in serial or parallel.

-i guess youre talkin to me. thats not what i meant. what i meant was that: no he doesnt need to worry about the main switch being turn on at the same time. since its not another independent source, theres no need to worry. next time ill kept it short. i feel like sometime, it needs an explanation... you know???

profuse007 - i was intending using a second 30a feed from the constant 12v wire on the ignition harness. So basically 2 feeds going into the headlight wire....

I cant decide if the instruction manual would lead to series or parallel situation......(Using diagram above for ref), If I remove the relay directly under the switch and connect the output from pin 30 on the top right relay directly onto the headlight 30a without cutting I will have the picture as per the manual... and therefore the potential for 2 feeds into the same wire...(This doesnt sound good to me - help?)

The car is a 1999 BMW 3 series convertible. Is there a 12v, 30A feed into the light switch i can use? And will using it solve the issue (i.e. it wont matter which of the switches is switching the lights or even if both are powered on).
