I installed the new Viper Alarm/Romote Start/Pager system in a 2001 Ford f150 light duty. every thing works fine except 45 mins after car is turned off the alam goes off and the remote pager shows that the door triggered the alarm even though the door did not. I have both door triggers connected so i tryed disconnecting one at a time to see which door was the cause, but it did it either way. what can be causing this? can it be the GEM sutting power down to the dome light after 45 mins. making the brain think that a door was opened? If so, how can i fix this? Btw, all my connections have been soldered and re-checked.

.....from a previous post: whats happening to you is a common problem. All your newer Ford products are equipped with a GEM(Generic Electronic Module) this device was designed to save battery life by shutting down the lighting of the vehicles interior(domelights,trunk lights, under hood light, courtesy, glovebox, etc). If you have an aftermarket alarm installed and you set your alarm it will false 30 minutes later some Fords are 45 minutes also. You have to double diode isolate the door triggers and also hood and trunk triggers if hooked up because in 30 minutes when your GEM shuts down it will remove 12V+ from the circuit causing a slight ground backfeed to the trigger wires. This ground is enough to set of your aftermarket alarm system the aftermarket alarm thinks the door was opened. Protecting both of your doors, your hood and your trunk using the factory pin switches would require a total of 8 diodes. If installed correctly this would solve all further falsing problems ------------- Jeff

Velocity ,Am i using one amp diodes for this situation? Which way am i putting my diodes ,and am i placing them towards the gem or towards each door??

Have the bands facing the door trigger. The Ford uses a (-) door trigger so the bands have to face the trigger wires NOT the alarm like most other applications.

I am having this same problem. I believe I have hooked up the diode correctly. I currently have one diode for each door. The alarm still goes off for no reason after about 45mins-1 hour. Is there a diagram that I can compare to? Is there a way to check to see if I have correctly hooked up the diodes? Thanks in advance for all of your help. This forum has always been very helpful to me in my projects! randy

Just a curiosity question, why are two diodes better than one, referring to diagram A? I am sure it solves the problem, but I guess one must be letting current through.

no they will not do more than one will . all they are really for one way intervention. all your trigger have to have diodes each wire needs to be isolated from another so do your self a favor the number of trigger you have is the number or diodes you will use and its easy if the flow through the diode you want a pos outcome you face the strip away from the wire towards the wire you want if you want a neg outcome you place strip connected to the wire that you are comming from to get a negative output through the diode,.
