I don't reall y know what the PROPER solution for this problem is so I 'm hoping some here can tell me what it is. I insstalled a remote starter maybe a month and a half ago on a 94 Ford escort. And the customer has come a couple of weeks after with a blown fuse.  So I looked around to see if I could spot a short but every thing looked clean. So I placed another fuse in it's place and now the customer has come back with another blown fuse.

Is the starter or the accesories sucking enough juice to blow these fuses on a cold day maybe? or whats going on ? can anyone enlighten me!

Thanks in advance

I've seen fuses blow when a customer gets in a car and go to power up other accessories while the car is still remote started..

For example

Joe remotes starts his car...joe finishes getting ready and goes outside.

Joe unlocks the doors and gets in....Joe then figures he'll turn on the rear defrost so that the back window will melt the ice.

Well, Joe then decides to listen to some music while he brushes the snow off of his car...so he puts some britney spears in and turns up the volume on his Dual cd player...

When he gets done he jumps back in the car and attempts to roll the windows down to get the left over snow off and Bam!!! Blown fuse.....Joe left the keys in his pocket the whole time and used the remote start to work all those functions...   BAD JOE>>>

In other Ford I've also need this problem....I ended up running 8Ga. Constant fused power directly to the battery and that also seemed to fix the problem...

You really won't know whats causing it until your able to duplicate the problem  but I would start there....and see what happens...

heater on fords draw alot of current, I'm not surprised, I usually will install a 30amp self reset breaker in the starter/heater power wire.

Thanks for that ,  turns out the rear heater was the straw that broke the camels back. I appreciate the help

audiovox says to use two 15 amp fuses paralelled to solve this problem. you still get 30 amps of protection, but they say that thetwo 15 amps in paralell do magic. i have done this on some older gm cars and the problem went away. hope it works for you
