alarm arming problem

Subject: alarm arming problem

Hi I have a avital 6501 in my car, and when I press arm some times it just does the normal 2 flashes and the 2 tones, but some times it flashes 4 times and the tones go beeping about 6 times what could cause this, all doors are shut and it still does it, any input is appreciated thanks

Hey 98dodge ,

It all depends on what vehicle it's installed in. But in most cases when the alarm LED flashes four times when disarming, it usually means that the trunk triggered the alarm in your absense. Three flashes indicate a door and two flashes indicate hood whereas one flash is an impact sensor. posted_image

I'm not very familiar with that Avital alarm but check and see if the domelight is completely off when you get the extra chirps. Many alarms will chirp extra if they see an open zone upon arming. If your domelight fades, it might not be all the way off if your quick on the draw with arming. So, it thinks that the doors are still open. Hope this helps!

yes, I have dimming dome, so i should just wait a few or just plain turn the dome off?

Don't have to. Just simply go to individual pin switches and diode isolate them from each other. What vehicle is this for? I'll give you colors and locations. posted_image

its for a 98 dodge stratus, the trigger is hooked up to the central door switch wire. thanks alot for your help

Hey 98dodge,

LF door is TAN

RF door is TAN/ORANGE

LR door is TAN/RED

RR door is TAN/PINK

These are all negative trigger and can be found at the BCM. The BCM is on the junction block under the left side of the instrument panel. Use diodes to isolate one from the other with the anode ( band ) connected to the pinswitch/BCM side. posted_image

great, you dont have a color and location of the trunk pin thats near the front of car, rather than run new cable, thanks

the trunk pin is a negative wire and it is tan/black.this wire is located in the drivers kick panel just look for it and test with a multimeter.
