Okay, I posted before about my problem, and I'm passed that (I lost the thread, so I couldn't read the responses), but I'm having a new problem. I read in another thread, that the problem is with the Passlock bypass, but my question is what could possibly be wrong. 555U in a 2002-3 Grand Am GT, I know it needs that bypass. The day we installed the remote start, it worked fine. Then we started putting everything together, and now it goes through it's cycle of running and dying. If you stick the key in the ignition and use the button, the car will start, and you can take the key out. So I know the problem is with the bypass, I'm just not sure what, since it DID work before we started putting everything back together after the install. I'm really at a loss, because the customer is getting upset over this (which I completely understand) it was our first attempt at a remote start, as a test to see if this was something we wanted to dive into (which from this experience, it isn't). Anyone have any ideas? I'm completely puzzled. Thanks for your type.

Problem is that you are using a key in the box type bypass when you should be using a resistance type. You are dealing with passlock NOT passkey.

I called the company, I'm using what they told me to use. The part number they said I had to use was a 555L, and that's been superceeded by 555U. So they sent me that.

Actually, that's incorrect.. I have a 556U, sorry.

No, 555U was superceded by 556U. 555R was superceded by 555L. They told you wrong and sent you the wrong bypass. The bypass you need is either the 555L or 555T.

I have having to multiple post, but I don't see an edit button. It's also a 2001, not a 2002. I had to run and check, since I wasn't sure about that.

It isn't a Grand Am. That was a typo on my part, I'm sorry about that. It's a Grand Prix GT. an 01.

Who ever the company is that is selling you this, FIRE THEM. The 555G is for passkey 3, not passlock which you are dealing with. I am telling you, get a 555L and that is what you need. Infact, Here is the install manual for the 555G. Stll think this is what you need?
Here is the manual for the 555L, This is what you need.
Edit, damn it now you say so. Then the 555G is the right one.
Also realize this, I am not selling you anything, I have no vested interest in this, I am just trying to help you out. Who do you trust someone providing you with all the info or a salesman. ------------- Certified Security Specialist

Oh, I would totally choose your information over theirs, but I get too much product from them to just get rid of them.. So just to clarify, I need a 555G for a 01 Pontiac Grand Prix GT? Correct?

Okay, so now that I have that figured out.. What does use a 556U? Would a Grand Prix GTP use one? Because the company I get it from (Keystone) sent me a 556U first, saying it was right. Now they're saying it's a 555G. I'm just trying to figure out where they dropped the ball.

556U is used for vehicles that the immobilizer is part of the key and transmits a signal when the ignition is turned. Common example would be ford with pats. Some of the new chevy's are coming out with this type of immobilizer. The 556U might have worked on this but wired will work much better.

Okay, thanks a lot for your help auex. I really appreciate it. Although I don't think I'll need it in the future, this is the LAST Remote Start we'll be installing ;) Thanks again

All right guys, I'm having another little problem with the 561R, and the 555G. Again, the vehicle is a 2001 Pontiac Grand Prix GT. The problem that we're having now is that the Status output LED won't light up on the 555G. The Status Output Wire no the 561R is Yellow in color, and on the 555G the wire that goes to that is Blue, or I'm assuming. The mechanic said that he remembers reading somewhere that there's a way to make the yellow wire negative, instead of positive, but we don't know how to do that. Unless someone else has another idea why it wouldn't go into learning mode, I'm all ears. Thanks for the time.

561R doesnt have a yellow status wire... in fact none of the DEI product does the yellow should be for ign feed/holdback to an alarm..... sounds like you've got something hooked up wrong.... status on the 561R is blue, 2nd status output is blue/white

Status on the 561r is blue on the small 4 pin harness adjacent to H1 (parking lights, ground, trunk etc.). It's about 4" in length, containing -ve starter, -ve ignition, -ve accessory.

it's amazing how simple things go when you read the instructions properly, isnt it? dont let this one experience taint you... try a few more and read and then re-read the wiring instructions to make sure you are hooking it up correctly... they really are quite simple once you get the hang of it and get your confidence built up...... ------------- Kevin Gerry
