Subject: Adding R/S to factory GM remote

Hello folks,

I bought a Viper 791 but decided to sell it to a friend and add a remote start to the factory keyless entry.

The only two that I know that can do this is the Valet 561t and Code Alarm's CA-410.  Are there others that I should look at?

Also, is it possible to add window roll-up modules to the factory keyless entry?  The vehicle in question is a 2003 HD Silverado Crew LS.  I'm not looking for any frills, just letting the factory protect the vehicle and roll up the windows while having remote start capability.

I appreciate any input & advice!

Why would you do that??? I don't get why people always want to keep the factory remote and try to control aftermarket stuff. Can you do it, yes but you just tripled the work load because you want to keep the factory remote.

Yeah I agree. You should have kept the 791. It's an awesome system and it's range is about 5x that of the factory key fob. When people ask me about RS they almost always 1st ask about keeping the factory remotes.

Ask yourself this,

What do you want protecting your car?

The crappy factory system?

Or a state of the art 2-way RS/alarm combo?

To answer your question you can do it. You can prob use the panic button to start the sequence. But it as AEUX said you create more work for yourslef trying to intergrate than just replacing with a whole system.

Good luck what ever you do!

As far as the windows go. You could add a stand alone 530t. That would give you auto up/down for 2 windows but I don't think you could get them to work with the factory remotes. If you could you would be most likely tying into you lock/unlock wires. SO your windows would roll down every time you disarmed. I suppose you could wire to just the lock wire of the factory system that way your windows would roll up when you armed/locked the doors. It's possible but probably not worth the time and effort to probe wires. Easier to just use the 791 whic has 3 aux channels. Channel's 2, 4 and 5. All can operate independently of each other and be programmed for various  functions(latched, pulsed, timed, latched with ignition etc..) The factory system can't do any of that.

AEUX & Jschult3,

The reason why I would like to keep the factory keyless remote is because in my situation and my daily habits does not warrant a more elaborate security system.  I keep my truck garaged at home, the truck is no more than 20 paces away at work (it's outside my bay door, in constant view), my stereo is stock, and when I want to use the remote start, the truck is no more than 100 feet at home and at work.  I have 3 factory remotes and the Viper comes with just one remote, I'd have to buy another just for my wife when she needs the truck to carry stuff.  The 2-way is nice but when any of the truck doors is opened, it will start honking and I will be within earshot.

It's hard for me to understand how it could be more work if the R/S add on requires connections to the ignition circuits, safety shutdown circuits (brake & hood) and the lock circuit (pressing twice for the R/S to activate, and maybe a wire or two.  I don't need to add anything else like the Viper don't I?  Seriously, I'm paying attention to what you have to say, just trying to understand the logic and thought the additional information given about my daily habits would make sense to you also.

I appreciate the inputs!

Sean

Sean,

If you looking for something a little simpler than a 2 way go with a few steps down. You get 2 remotes as you need. You could leave out the shock sensor and anything else you don't need. That way you can add a 530T and get your windows working on the Aux channel.

check out www.thewholesalematrix.zoovy.com

look under security, they sell what your looking 4 at about 100-125 usd.

Jeffrey,

I looked at the site but had trouble finding anything like it under Security.
