Subject: Door Triggers / False Alarm / Diode Wiring
Date Posted: October 24, 2002 at 10:37 PM

I am wiring up a Viper 550esp to a 2001 Mustang 3.8L coupe.

I am running into the common problem of the 30 minute false alarm being set off by the GEM in the car shutting down the power to all the lights, thereby triggering the door alarm.

I have diode isolated both driver and passenger trigger wires, so i don't know what is wrong?  Which end does the cathode supposed to face in this situation?  Anyone have a wiring diagram for this specific situation?

The door trigger wires are (-).  The alarm provides both a (+) and a (-) wire for the door triggers, and i know i am using the (-).

Thanks for any help.

What is an isolation relay?

I have not even hooked up the trunk wire yet, so i know that is not causing the problem.

What amperage diodes did you use for the doors ?

I used the following:  IN4004 ,  Forward Current: 1 Amp , Reverse current 30mA

Band facing the door triggers? Wire another 1 amp in parallel and this should solve your problem.

Yes, i put the bands facing the doors.

So I should put two diodes in parallel?  (vs series)  Is this what is termed "double diode isolate" ?

I wonder why the wiring instructions didn't tell me to double isolate each trigger wire.  Am i using the right diodes?

You are using the right diodes, but sometimes the amperage is not enough and you still get trace currents going to the BCM that controls the door trigger. Try this and post your results. Fords have always beena  trouble vehicle for most installers witht he GEM, PATS and other items that they seem to throw installers way.

Hey  cericthered,

First of all you need two diodes per door.  Twist the band sides of the diodes together then  CUT the pin switch wire from the door and put one diode inline with the band facing the door and connect the Green trigger input of the alarm to the black side of the second diode.  Do the same for the other door and again the same for the trunk switch.

There is another method using a relay but try the diodes first. posted_image

Okay here are some diagrams:  Right now i am using "A" (the first one) and it's not working.  From what i could understand, Jeff, you are telling me to do "B", does that look right?

BY THE WAY, these pics are displaying hookup for ONE door only.
