Mistushocker would like help with automate antitheft/ keyless entry that seems to be inhibiting start of a newly bought 1997 Mitsubishi Eclipse GS M/T. I have taken apart a few engines in my time, 2 of this same make/model, am a pilot of 7 years, college grad with honors etc... etc.... etc.... so I have a little know how of wiring, schematics, and how stuff works. Some things just dont seem to make sense and I hope someone might help. I have just taken apart the engine of my 97 Eclipse GS to install head gasket, water pump, and timing belt beacaue there was a slight oil/pressure leak from #4 cylinder. May as well get timing belt and water pump while all is apart of course... :) After putting all the parts back together, I put the key into the ignition, turn 2 clicks, and tighten down the neg side of batt. to override Automate 467 setting off alarm etc, try to start, nothing. Push the door open and close button on the remote and try again, still nothing. All except a check engine light that flashes until I shut the alarm off and a clicking near my left foot. Tried to reset alarm and ECS many times, still stumped, checked fuses, and even tried to pull the onboard anti-theft fuse. (manufacturer as well as aftermarket anti-theft) Have tried many combinations of disconnecting battery and pushing remote buttons even for extended time periods. My solution is that a elec switch is stuck somewhere in the alarm and to cut out the automate. Any other suggestions would be appreciated....

Go under the driver's dash and look for the starter wire or alarm. Follow the wiring to the starter kill relay. Cut the large gauge wires going into the relay and connect the ends. If you can locate the starter wire with out finding the alarm then find where it is cut and spliced into the relay and reconnect.
auex has spoken.
