I have a Astroflex RS and it has a output (-) when running. It says, "This output is activated during the START cycle and is powered up 1 second before ignition until 1 second after ignition". Is this the same as a ground when running? I have a transponder bypass kit for my 2001 Nissan Altima. It says to connect it to ground while running output. I take it is what i found above, right? Also doesn't this make the spare key in have in the bypass kit send a signal constantly or does it just stay on until a real transponder key is put in?

I think you just need the transponder to start the car, not to keep it running.

yeah i know that but from the phase output when running or ground when running, does this mean that the bypass kit will send the transponder key signal only during the startup phase or while the car is running under the whole 18 nminutes that the car is remote started?

The GROUND OUT WHEN RUNNING wire only activates when the remote start sequence is activated and turns off when the owner of the vehicle places the other key in the cylinder and takes over the vehicle. The RS unit will automatically shut down the (-) signal coming off the GROUND OUT WHEN RUNNING wire when the brake input detects voltage. If the RS unit does not turn off the (-) signal for the transponder bypass module you will end up damaging both keys. ------------- Jeff

Will the car still stay on and be able to be driven with?

No, if there is no key with a chip in it that tries to take over the car after remote start, the system will shut down when the brake is depressed.

Jeff, Please respond to this scenario then. If the transponder bypass only shuts off when the brake pedal is pressed (therby shutting off the remote start unit) what happens if you insert a key into the ignition but dont press the brake right away? Or, what if the key is in the ignition and the remote start is pressed? These situations would seem to allow both the key and bypass unit to simultaneously send signals to the vehicles transponder unit (and would ruin the keys as you mention in your post above)? FROM WHAT I HAVE SEEN THE INSTALLERS AROUND HERE ARE RUNNING A DUPLICATE TRANSPONDER KEY , YOU WRAP WIRE AROUND THE KEY AND WIRE IT TO A RELAY THEN TO THE IGNITION SWITCH WHEN THE REMOTE START IS SHUT OFF THE RELAY KILLS THE SIGNAL FROM THE KEY OTHERWISE IT WILL PICK UP BOTH KEYS AND SHUT DOWN

first off all check this out. i have just done a honda prelude 2000 which needed the dei 555u which is similar i believe to the pats system (i dont know the names i just know what to do) but what happens is the chipped key is only needed to start the car not to keep it running. in this particular car what i did is burried the key in the mod and got a key made up from local homedepot and so i used the coded key to start and for know since the customer had the second coded key at home i use the homedepot key to take over the car after the remote start has started it. He has had it in for two days using the one copied homedepot key and he has been fine . no errors no nothing down side you still loose a key and you cant start the car with the copied key so you would have to rs first than do a key takeover and you would be fine this is a cheap way to help walkin customers be one there way. without having to go home and get second key. and then you just tell them to get a key made at local hardware and it will allow them to be on there way.

Every car I have seen except the Ford Focus only checks for the coded key right when you attempt to start the car. DEI says you need to interupt the tranponder bypass by using the keysense wire of the vehicle in order to prevent problems.

The Chevy Venture and the Pontiac version also have to stop "seeing" the transponded key signal when the key is inserted, havent seen it on any other Passkey 3 systems though
