I had a 791 XV installed and have had major problems. The first time I got the truck back the car wouldn't charge, the dealership said an alternator connector was dislodged and a computer connecter was dislodged. I just got the truck back for the second time from the installer and now the truck has again had its battery die. Symptoms: When the car was starting, last night and this morning, the car started really rough with the key, but fine with the remote start. When I attempt to start the truck with the key today, it won't start, and when I remove the key it trys to start over and over again, about three times without the key even in it. What could be draining the battery? or interrupting the alternator? Also why does the car try to start multiple times when using the key without RS? ------------- 2005 Tacoma V6 DC/SB

sounds like a very poor install....take it all out and see if the vehicle is working fine... if it is, take the gear to a qualified shop to have it installed....

It was Audio Express and around here they are reputible, and do alot of work, also they have installed it twice, so now I think there is something else then just that. Not dismissing it, it is a good suggestion, I just wanted to probe it farther and see if there are more ideas...

I had audio express home of the 1 dollar wire fire install mine also!! not a very good job! When I called DEI to inquire about the problem they said call my installer! I said my installer is the problem! They never called me back! DEI's customer service sucks That stupid warranty crud kept me from doing a clean install myself! Thank god for this Forum!!! or I would still be asking questions! Scott Z

I agree with Kgerry, you've given the shop 2 chances to fix what is wrong. Thats assuming that everything worked correctly before the install. Anyway for the battery to die repeatedly you have to have an open circuit. The shop should know how to check for this with their DMM. Seeing how you had it installed I would not recommend doing too much on your own. They could come back and claim you have modified the car after install and tell you your on your own. About as far as I would recommend is pulling the fuses on the the main line into the alarm as well as the 2 +12volts wires on the mini relay satellite. You may have a relay not functioning correctly in the relay satellitte. It's very small, approx 2.5 inches by 4 incehes and will have thick wire runninf from it into the steering column starter wires. See if your power drain stops O/N. You could ask the shop who specifically installed it. I used to work for a natinal electronics chain and we had a good reputation locally, but 1 or 2 poor installers created a few problems by taking shortcuts and it really hurt our business, No they we're not MECP certified but the shop manager and ass. manager we're. When I was invloved with a few customer problems, I was told " well they're being trained to take the MECP course " or something like that. Either way take it back to them and have them look at it. I would try and arrange to be present to obersve the troubleshooting process. That way you can post back if you run into more problems with some more detail. Good Luck ------------- Jeff

A battery drain would occur if you have 12 volts constant on a relay that required a switched input. Do as the other member's suggested and ask that the shop remove the system and see if your problem persists. Try another shop, but the '05 Tacoma is a basic installation with little to offer as far as road blocks are concerned. Don't try to do anything yourself, otherwise the shop can use that against you as potential " tampering " with the installation.

Ok, yesterday (when the battery was dead) I called the shop, and the store manager and shop manager came out. They jumped the truck and got it running, and disconnected all their equipment, and watched the battery for about a half an hour to see if it drained: It didn't. After that they hooked everything back up and monitored the battery for another half an hour to see if it drained: It didn't. I went and bought a volt meter and took the truck home. The store manager gave me his cell phone # and told me to call him at 8 with a voltage readout. I did that and it was at 12.99, this morning it was at about 12.80. The car started fine and everything seems to be working fine, eventhough we/they didn't find anything wrong... Is the drain from 12.99 to 12.80 overnight normal? ------------- 2005 Tacoma V6 DC/SB

Last question. Everything is seemingly working fine, except for one. The car starts fine (usually) with the remote start, but if I try to just use the key, it starts prety hard. I usually have to turn it over a few times, for a few seconds to get it to start. There is a key module installed under the dash. Any ideas? ------------- 2005 Tacoma V6 DC/SB

Here is the deal with my problem...I have a Crimestopper CoolStart...I cannot use the (-) keysense wire because the latch output of the 556U and the status output wire from my remote start have to go on this. I cannot hook the green wire up from the 556u to this because it thinks there is always a key in it due to the fact that it is hooked to the remote start system all the time. On that ignition wiring harness though, there are two wires...that GREEN/ black one and another wire....does anyone know if the other wire is a (+) keysense wire since the GREEN/ black is a (-) keysense wire? If it is that I can just hook to that. Please help me!!
