I'll try to make this brief. Car battery died, got jumped, alarm cannot be controlled by remote now. Tried reprogramming using the steps in the installation manual, but when I press the button to program it to the channel nothing happens except the remote beeps like it does when it's out of range or there's no reception.
The weird thing is that when alarm is in normal mode, and it arms itself like it normally does, my remote beeps and shows the car is armed. When I get in the car and the alarm goes off it shows the door open and alarm is going off in LCD. 'To sum up, the remote cannot send, but can receive signal, and reprogramming doesn't seem to work. I'm very frustrated, and would be very happy if somebody could help.
You know, one of the things most folks overlook is when you jump a car, you are giving a voltage boost to most if not all electronic systems in the car to an already existing low current (weak/dying/dead battery) There is a possibility of you frying the sensitive 12volt feed to the alarm brain. I know, the fuse is supposed to blow..sometimes, the ripple is just enough to jolt sensitive electronics..
Start with the basics.. Switch out the remote battery first to make sure you are transmitting on full power as possible. Also have a second remote to test out if possible. If you can access the clifford brain, disconnect the main power fuses and let it sit for a while. While it is doing that, double check all your connections..antenna and grounding points included, along with fuses. Download the install manual
here and follow the reset procedure. Try reprogramming the remotes. DEI/Clifford had a poor run of 791/RSX remotes in the earlier models..you might have a bad remote.though it sounds coincidental that it corresponds with a jumpstart. Good luck and post back with results..
thanks metaverse, i got the manual and tried the programming sequence for the remote, but didn't work. In the manual it says that the alarm can be locked by a bit writer, meaning you cannot program remotes to it until it is unlocked. There is a small chance that this is my problem, I'm going to take it somewhere that has a bit writer tomorrow to see if it is locked and they can unlock it. It would be weird if the remote is broke and just cannot send pages, but can receive them. I was hoping to fix this without taking my car apart to check things out, looks like I might have no choice. Will post what eventually happens. Still open to anymore input.
