Ok, so I went to the coils (the top of the 1.8 engine) and used the wires supplied in the Directed wiring guide, and I can get a signal of 30.1 or 30.5 when the engine is running with my multimeter set to AC voltage.

Then when i rev the engine it doesn't go up at all. I then went to a fuel injector, and probed both the wires and got the same results with one of the wires. I get around 30.0 but when i rev the engine it stays at 30 doesnt go up.

Basically im using an autostart unit 2 way and cant get the tach to program.

Any hints? I decided not to use the tach cluster because there are so many wires in a small area and would rather goto the engine.

The injectors are just above the "nissan" sign and the coil packs should be just below the "nissan" sign correct? When I hook into the wire with the DMM and turn it to 200 AC, the voltmeter says 0.00 when the vehicle is off, when I start the vehicle up it goes to about 30.0 but doesn't go up with higher rpm's. Any help appreciated.

For tach go to any of the coils and use one of the following: BLACK/ red, purple, blue/red, or gray/red. Can also use blue/orange at the instrument cluster if vehicle is equipped with a tachometer.

30V ac is way to high. Make sure that you are using one of the wires listed above when checking.

Does the car have a tach in the instrument cluster.

Yes the car has a tach in the instrument cluster, its just really cluttered in there with lots of small tight wires. Also there is two wire harnesses hooked to the cluster, would it be the one on the right or left? I already got through the firewall and have the wire ran through so it would be easier going to something in the engine bay.

Ok guys still having problems with the Tach. Basically I got the unit to accept the tach signal, but now the remote start won't start because it says " Tach or vacuume line detected while attempting to start"

I checked the AC voltage on the tach wire, with the vehicle off and at the 200 setting it detects about 5. When the vehicle is running it is much higher.

I am using the first injector (far left if your facing the engine).

Bump, anyone? I have probed so many  wires as of now.  I guess I could try to go for the instrument cluster.

* On the 2.0L engine the tach is ORANGE / BLUE at the distributor coil on the driver's side of the engine (4 cylinder signal). On the 1.8L engine, each cylinder has an individual coil. Go to any of the 4 coils and use the RED stripped wire for a 1 cylinder signal. You can also use the wire opposite the BLACK/ RED at any of the injectors, also a 1 cylinder signal. You can also find a BLUE/ORANGE at pin-32 on the PCM on the PCM in the right rear engine compartment (both engines).
