Hello all-

I have an idea for an alarm-system controlled auxilliary lock, and am trying to research it. I want to install a strong, long-ish throw solenoid that will lock my vans sliding door. There is a flat bar that slides into the door post beside the passenger seat- the idea is to have a solenoid that will latch into it.
Has anyone done this, and are there pictures? I have been searching online for a while with no luck.

If anyone can offer any suggestions I would greatly appreciate it. Thanks in advance.

not sure i follow what your saying.......i have added a door lock actuator to the sliding door. its no different then doing one of the front doors.....you should have a panel that you can remove to expose the linkage for the lock.... just install the new motor and use the connecting block and tie the two together.....

Sorry, I'm not being clear enough. I want to add
_another_
locking mechanism to the sliding door.
I work out of my van and carry several thousand dollars worth of tools and equipment. I have steel mesh installed over the inside of the windows and between the passenger/cargo compartments, and the rear doors are padlocked from the inside. I want to install a second, remote triggered lock that will provide additional security to the sliding door. There are exterior locks available: https://www.inlad.com/main_inventory/Van_Door_Locks/American_Lock_and_Hasp/1/industrial_ladder.htm
but the downside is that they make your van a target.

Perverse, isn't it?

So- I'm trying to find an appropriate 12v solenoid to mount inside the door pillar that will fire _through_ the sliding door latch.
Any suggestions?
