I finally got my hands on the BitWriter manual, but it is very generic and basically just tells what the buttons on the unit do.

When I hooked the BitWriter up to my truck with a 791XV installed I get the following codes (in no particular order, but this is a good sample):

System Arming Mode
255

Feature Programing
97

Transmitter Programing
97

Confirmation Chirp
215

Ign-Controlled Lock
255

Anti-Grind Output
239

Door Trigger Error Chirp
175

Swamprat has been helping me with this (thanks again) but we are both stumped at these codes. I thought it might be the 1.6 chip that I got off eBay, so I put the 1.4 chip back in. Now it says that it is not a valid system. The BItWriter seems to function properly with the 1.6 chip in it (read, file, write) but the codes have me stumped

Any ideas?

As to the version, i have not came acoss any system that needs the 1.6 was this an upgrade to fix a problem. i saw only 1 system that use the 1.5

If it is a bad chip make sure you got the 1.4 seating right.

No. I got the 1.6 because I didn't read the auction close enough. I thought I was getting complete Bitwriter at a "too good to be true" price of $22.00 NR. It had been listed in the wrong area and no-one had even looked at it.....I think it had three views in a week. After I bought it I saw that it was just the chip, but since it was my fault for not reading the description I saw no reason to back out of the sale.

When I bought the BitWriter it had the 1.4 chip in it. As far as I know, it was working fine. I got it from a guy who had been doing installs and hadn't used it in quite some time. I think he is using a laptop now.

Is it possible that once a file is written to the system in v1.5 or v1.6 that the v1.4 chip can't access it?

Looks like auex was right. I just got a replacement v1.6 chip in from AutoTechs.com and it works just fine. I'm still unsure why the v1.4 chip wouldn't read the system at all, but at least it's working now.

I pulled mine apart out of curiousity. Is the version chip the small one or the large one?

Be carefull when handling the EPROM chip static electricty can cause damage to them.
