I had a new Clifford Matrix 3.5 installed today in my son’s 1996 Ford Explorer. It took several hours (4.5), but we were very pleased with the result except for one issue…
When the remote start in activated, the doors also unlock. We found that the alarm is still armed, but the unlocked doors are a BIG concern for us. This puzzled the installer as he said it is unusual. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

sounds like he hooked up factory disarm to the unlock wire but failed to hook up factory rearm to the lock wire.....
he doesnt need to hook up these wires at all.... but if you are going to, you have to hook up both, that way the door will unlock just before crank and relock right after crank..... tell him to see if he hooked up arm or disarm and disconnect them and see what happens.....
now that i think about it i think the Viper should pulse the lock wire after crank automatically..... hhhmmmm try programming off the ign controlled doorlocks and see what happens....

Your installer is an idiot. There is nothing unusual about the doors unlocking when remote starting, that is just installer error. That vehicle has a disarm wire, so there is no need to unlock the doors to disarm the factory alarm. In fact, I don't think unlocking the doors will even disarm the alarm. Let us know if you need more specific information. If you knew how he hooked things up, I could tell you how to fix it, but since someone else installed it, he should be the one to fix it. Tell the installer to post a thread on this forum if he needs help

chrisp2000,
This might be a unit programing error on the installers part, or a defect on the unit when it was manufacture. It is difficult to access because I don't have your car to look at. Before you lose faith in your installer.
Print this wiring infomation for your vehicle and bring this to them. This will allow them to identified the problem quickly.
To remedy the problem what your installer will do is connect the disarm wire from the Clifford unit to the "Factory Alarm Disarm dk. GREEN/ purple which is found in the driver kick panel of your car". Don't fix it yourself. Get your installer to do it. It is much easier for them to do it since they can follow up on their own work.
