Well first off I am new here and found alot of interesting info. I am just the casual do it yourself person, I feel if I do it , it will be done right as long as I have the right info. Anyhow, I bought a remote starter its a TRC ZR-25 Humm thinking about it not sure what I really have here good/bad unit. I looked around on here for a wiring diagram for the install on a 1998 chevy tahoe 4x4 4dr auto. 5.7v-8. The truck does have a passlock security system from the factory. I am not really sure what that is but figured someone here could explain it to me. I could only find the info for everything but the remote starter. So in general i am looking for the following: truck wiring diagram, info on the good or bad quality of this unit, Do I need additional controls for the passlock. Is there a special way to wire this unit to unlock one door on first try then the remaining 3 on the second try on the unlock button. I have done stereo installs , but this will be a first for a remot starter. I am looking foward to it kinda like a challange i guess. This is going into my boss's (wife) truck. Any help/info would be greatly appreciated. James K..

Can anyone tell me if the passlock moduals are brand specific for each remote starter? and what brand do you recomend? The remote starter I have is a TRC ZR-25 unit. And is there a specific way to wire up for unlocking the drivers door only then the rest. I am hoping to do this install this weekend comming up. Figured we are both on vacation so if it takes a day or 2 its no big deal. Does anyone know aif this is a good bad or decent unit??

Never heard of that unit before. There is another post on the forum that mentions it though and that the guy didn't care for it.

Passlock is GM specific. It doesn't matter what remote starter you use with it. You should use a DEI 555L bypass for your Passlock II system or an equivalent from bypasskit.com like a PLDATA. The 555L learns the resistance of your passlock system automatically and saves a bunch of time. The PLDATA does that also with fewer wires. You can usually pick up these units at the local install shop or on Ebay.
That vehicle is not setup for driver priority unlocking and would be more hassle than it's worth to make it that way.
Another wiring diagram for your vehicle is here:

The TRC stuff is down and dirty cheap....I also, have heard of unsatisfied results from this product. I would say use it ONLY if you have no other alternatives. Ther are BETTER products. -------------

iskidoo, her truck has a factory setup/keyless entry. Press the unlock on remote once and it unlocks JUST the drivers door. Press the unlock again and it unlocks the remaining 3 doors. So by the sounds of it the PLDATA unit is the way to go. Her truck does not have a alarm system just the keyless entry. Is this still going to make a differance on either unit 555L or the PLDATA units? James K.

It's most likely that you just need the one unlock wire hooked up. It may be as simple as pulsing the unlock button once for driver priority unlock, and pulsing it twice for all doors unlock. If so the remote start/keyless entry unit usually has the capabilty within the programming to set 1 or 2 pulses with each unlock press on the remote. If it's not set up that way then it may have 2 seperate wires. In that case, test the wires near the unlock wire for one that gives a pulse only after the 2nd press of the unlock button of the factory remote. None of the wire charts I have list which wire it is so I can't help you. I personally like to hit the unlock button once and unlock all the doors.

Either unit will work fine. You will have to use one or the other to bypass the Passlock II. There are other units that will work but involve more work and can be troublesome. You can even use resistors and a relay. I've used both of those units and they are very nice and rather easy to install. PLDATA is the easier of the two but probably a little more expensive. https://bypasskit.com/product.aspx?prodid=PLDATA

Well I went to 2 different shops today, one recomended the GMBP unit. The other recomended the PLXR unit, I do believe this ubit to be the correct one. Noone had the PLDATA unit, they said these were the more up to date units I went onto the bypasskit.com site and looked up the PLXR and it appears to be the one to use. This being it covers passlock 1 and 2 and 2 other GM security systems. The GMBP paper work only listed passlock 2 and 3 but NOT 1. Now the othewr question here does a 98 tahoe have passlock 1 or 2?? Passlock 2
It's great that those units handle all that extra stuff for installers but if you don't have passlock I or Passkey 3 then it's kinda overkill and more expensive. The unit will work fine though so good luck with the install.
