My keyless entry system stopped working a few weeks ago.
It refuses to respond to either the valet button or either of the remotes even after having replaced the batteries.
None of the fuses are blown, and all of the wires are connected to what they should be. I had not been doing any work on the car and so the system nor anything it's attatched to was messed with.

What should I check next?

Any ideas?

do the doors lock and unlock using the switch on the drivers door?

disconnect the DRL wires from the 3200 and meter them when you use the transmitter, they are dual polarity so you can meter them either way... do you get voltage/ground on lock and unlock on the blue/green wires when not connectred to the DRL circuit?

did you use a 451M?  did you check it's fuse?

answers to the above should help us narrow down your problem.....

The locks do work with the "Manual" Auto lock switch.

I'm not sure of the part number but I did use the little door lock relay satelite that came with the unit. I did check the fuse to this unit as well.

The LED does not come on or change state whith the phob or the valet either.

the LED wouldnt come on just by using the keyless feature.... check the fuses to the main unit/brain....then meter the GREEN/ blue doorlock wires as i mentioned... i presume it remotes starts fine? if so, unlikely it's a fuse problem.....which will only leave a problem in the brain or a problem in the 451 module... meter before and after the module and you'll be able to narrow it down to one or the other...if you get voltage where you should before and after the module then check your connections to the doorlock wires for a bad connection... did you solder them or use t taps?

BTW, when you refer to your "keyless system " not working are you referring to only the keyless entry feature or the whole unit?

I don't have the remote start parts installed.

By "keyless system" I'm refering to the whole unit. (obviosly only what i had installed).

Generally the LED would blink if it at least "thought" the doors were locked. Also it would come on in responce to the valet button.

I metered the power and grounds, they are good.

You can give me all the crap about just tapping the wires you want.

When i first got the system I connected it with power, ground, antenna, and LED in the passenger floor just so i would have something to show off. So I know that with those four things it should at least respond to the phob.

Is there a definite way to determine if the brain itself is just dead?

Are you just looking at the fuse to see if it is good or not. i seen were it looks good but it off just a hair. try changing it or pull i tout and put a meter to it. also were did you ground it to. Were did you conect the main power to.

I'll try metering the fuses when i get a chance.

The power is connected to a constant fuse in the main fuse panel. And the ground is conntected to one of the main screws that holds the dash structure to the car.

It has worked for 5 years connected the same way in 2 different cars. 86 volvo 240 first (totaled), 83 volvo 240 second (current)

You connect it to the fuse box, that also may have a fuse on it also not just the wire that go to the brain. aslo on soem older car they had fuseable links.
If that all check outs pull the alarm/brain down and at the very end see if there is power goign 12v constat wire. adn if so you may just have a bad unit.
