What would make a Diode get so hot it burns the plastic on the croimp connectors and turn them green ?

RU using 1n4001 or equivalent and is it a 1 amp circuit?

Yes its a 1N4001 and its in the parking light circuit ... the one that came with the alarm burned and now this one .... I cant figure it out

A local car alarm place gave me a 1N5401 diode to use ..... can I use this ?

Yes the 1N5401 is rated for 3 Amp instead of ! Amp.

Now I have people telling me not to install a diode ... to just connect without it .... would leaving it out cause any problems ?

The output from most Alarm/remote start/keyless entry units is typically rated at 10amps so i wouldn't think you even need the diode. What year/make/model is the vehicle?

Its a 99 Dodge Dakota ... Also its a Clifford Avantguard 4 alarm
