Remote start unlocks my doors?

Here are the vitals:

96 BMW 328is with Clifford Intelliguard 6000 and newly added Intellistart 4, no factory alarm or keyless entry

I installed the alarm in the car 3 or 4 years ago and it continues to work flawlessly. I just added the Intellistart 4 this weekend (including the DEI bypass) and it also works very well EXCEPT it unlocks my doors upon remote start. Actually, upon pushing the remote start button, the lights flash twices, the car chirps twice, the power comes on, and then the engine fires up and the car unlocks. The alarm stays armed but the doors unlock. I can then disarm the alarm and rearm it and the doors will lock.

I know I can make the Intellistart lock the doors but I don't know why they're coming unlocked. I did not touch any of the locking wires from the original install. Just to be clear too, the Clifford is the only alarm system. It's never had a factory alarm or even keyless entry until I added the Clifford.

Can you try remote starting with the alarm disarmed and the doors unlocked? Does it then lock the doors? The thought here is that since you said you know you can make the clifford lock the doors on remote start I am thinking it's pulsing the locks and unlocking them. This is just a guess on my part. Maybe you will get a more definitive answer. Just peeked my curiousity.

The unlocking is a fucntion of the vehicle not the alarm in this case, at least it sounds like .You could use the factory rearm wire coming off of the alarm to lock the doors after r/s.

I've been sick lately, sorry I won't be on much.

I tried to remote start with the alarm disarmed and doors unlocked. It fired up and did nothing with the locks. One thing I had wrong in my description is that the doors unlock first and then the car fires up.

I do have the clifford set to auto unlock when the engine is shutdown after normal driving. I thinking that maybe the clifford is seeing that combination of inputs right before remote start and is unlocking the doors. I'm going to set the auto unlock to off and see if that makes a difference.

Again, I do realize that I can easily lock the doors after remote start but I would like to know why they are coming unlocked. I do agree that it's probably the vehicle causing the unlock and not the alarm so I'll probably end up having to lock after remote start. I was hoping someone who may have done a BMW r/s has seen this before if it is the car causing the issue.

One more thought though, the BMW uses what it calls "double locking" for the doors. It basically dead bolts the door when you lock it from the outside with the key. I wired my alarm to double lock the doors. I forget exactly how I had to wire it but I think I had to pulse the lock and unlock wire at the same time. MAYBE the BMW doesn't like that the doors are double locked and the car is being started. That's a situation that would normally never happen. I'm going to try to roll down the window and lock the door with my key. Then, I'll start it to see what it does. Who knows? It's worth a shot.

Thanks for the update. Ya You're right it's worth a shot. I think with perserverance you will eventually get it. I don't blame you for wanting to get it working right. You shouldn't have to relock when remote starting.
