i recently took my car to get an alarm installed..it has a trunk release feature and i was wondering if i install it myself would i need a relay? or can i just tap the negative trunk release wire from the alarm to the negative trunk release wire of the car? anyone help me out please?

Most of the time you can just use the wire off the alarm but it depends if it's strong enough. Most systems produce anywhere from a 250 - 500 mA output on the trunk release wire. Try hooking it up and if it works great, if not, then use a relay.

Most Accords have a positive trigger trunk release, so a relay will be needed. I guess posting the year of the vehicle would have been too difficult.

I did that, and it works great. I have a 2002 focus with negative trunk release switch. Just connected the negative wire on alarm to the negative wire in the trunk switch. When i press both buttons on my remote i hear a relay click. So it works for me.
