Subject: Adding LEDs to DEI 563T

I've installed a Hornet 563T (same as Valet 563T or Avital 4300) with a GMDL-BP on my 2004 Envoy (5.3L). I've seen a car at work that has a blinking LED in each doorlock knob. I'm considering putting an LED at each "B" pillar, one in the dash, and one at the tailgate window. The LED output harness on the brain puts out a blinking signal of about 2 VDC, so the original LED is apparently not a blinking LED.

I don't want to overload the LED output circuit, so I decided to raise my blood pressure by calling DEI tech support. Since I'm not a dealer the gatekeeper wouldn't connect me to tech support so I could ask what current the LED output circuit could handle. (She DID inform me that I had voided my warranty by installing the alarm myself. I promised to jump off the next cliff I find. Great help, there.) I bought the alarm off the internet. I highly doubt I'm going to be able to convince the dealer to contact DEI themselves, ask them what current the circuit can handle, and relay the answer back to me.

I've got some 2 mA LEDs and would like to connect up to four LEDs to this circuit. I could replace the original LED with one of the low-current ones if it came close to the current capacity of the circuit. Another alternative would be to use a relay with the (-) 500mA Armed Output (orange wire, H1/1) to supply current to some blinking LEDs. I'd just as soon not wire up a relay for this and buy blinking LEDs when I already have "regular" low-current LEDs.

Anybody ever added LEDs to an alarm like I'm thinking about and have any suggestions? Even better, anybody know what the capacity of the LED circuit is? Thanks.

you can't use the factory, but you can use a relay to power the other led it will work

You can have a total of 5 leds wired in series off of DEI alarms. On the other hand, it will NOT power a relay.

Good deal, Auex, this is the information I'm looking for!

I'll only need 4 LEDs max. Should all 4 of them be of the same current rating, or can I use the original LED along with 3 "low-current" LEDs (RadioShack) at the same time?

I'm assuming you're saying the brain's LED output won't power a relay? My first post should have been clearer- I was considering running a relay off the H1 harness's (-) 500 mA wire that supplies Ground when armed. I'm also assuming THAT wire will power a relay?

Many thanks.

If you use a relay off the orange wire you will have a dead battery over night . the relay will stay latched as long as the alarm is armed, not a good idea. Just parallel connect all your leds off the main led .
