Hi guys,

Did some searching as any good newbie should, but didn't quite find (or maybe understand?) what I was looking for.

I just finished installing a Commando 870 alarm system in my 1998 4Runner.  According to the manual, it says that the green "Power Door Lock" (negative) wire needs to be connected to the RED / white wire.  Also, the blue "Power Door Unlock" (negative also) needs to be connect to the RED / yellow wire.

The green and blue wires are attached to a 3 pin harness that plugs in to the "brain" module.  Because these wires were too short, I soldered longer wires to them and connected them (temporarily, thank god) to the appropriate wires.

When I hit the lock/unlock buttons, the C870 beeps as it should, but doesnt lock/unlock the doors.  When I open the door, the siren does *not* go off.  The only way I can get the siren to go off is when I rock/roll the car.

Also, some other things that I did that may be contributing to this system not working properly:

- I did not hook up the Tach wire.
- I did not hook up the hood pin switch (yet)

One curious thing that has been happening is the 3A fuse has blown out 3 times now.  That 3A fuse is connected to a 12V wire that is located in the ignition harness

Thanks guys for any help!

Bob

U may need Relays to supply a stronger GROUND to your Door Lock / Unlock wires.

Power LockRED / WHITE13 PIN BLUE CONNECTOR
Power UnlockRED / YELLOWIN DRIVER KICK PANEL **

** Child Safety Locks: RED / BLUE (-) In Same Connector As Door Lock Wires Above.

Also, which wire did you hook up to your Dome Light Switch for Alarm to trigger when U open door?

Dome LightBLACK/ WHITE (-)3 PIN PLUG ON BACK OF FUSE BLOCK *
* Fuse Block Located Behind Driver Dash To Left Of Steering Column

hey everyone,

this is really stupid of me...hehe...turns out that i didn't have the harness plugged into the right plug!  no joke.  there are three 3pin plugs and i just mistakenly put it into the wrong one.  2 hours wasted!  but anyways, all is fine and now im going to try to install some other features requiring relays.

btw, this is my first alarm install.  i learned a ton from you guys after searching numerous posts.  especially helpful was the wiring database.  the commando one was incorrect on the location of the door locks which of course led me back to this site.

as the geeky youngin's would say r0xoR!!!  (i learned that last week) :)
