Hey everyone, I know I'm a newbie so crack the jokes as you may. I recently started a job doing security and one of the major responsibilities is doing lockouts with a slim jim. I've done lockouts before during valet with a simple wedge and a rod, but this completely blows my mind. I got stuck trying to get a chevy lumina in 20 degree weather and it was not pretty. Does anyone know of any sites where I can download a diagram for most of the make and models? My hands and feet will thank you plenty.

What does a job doing security and have to do with slim jiming cars? I would also assume that if your job required this you would also be provided tools and be told that you can't simply use a slim jim to open most new cars because the lock rods are covered. You can buy the info and full jim sets and jiggle keys off of snapon trucks, but again you need to show that you are a lock smith to get it. You provide proof that you are a "lock smith" which you must be to be able to obtain said information that you are asking for and maybe someone will help you. Just so you are aware, in some states IT IS A FELONY to even have a set of jiggle keys in your possesion. Being a newbie and not knowing basics is rather stupid, I mean that you should know what is required to obtain info pertaining to your trade. Ignorance is not a defense.

Sorry but gut instict tells me to say f**k off.

Incase you think I am trying to flame, your wrong. Just look at what type of forum you are in, CAR SECURITY. No one will blatantly give you info to break into a car when we try to protect them.

Orange9mm, you better have a chat with your boss, what your being asked to do , is a HUGE liability on HIM, not you. What if you F*ck some dudes car up tryin to bail his stupid ass out, cause he locked his keys in the car. Hes an idiot and gets what he deserves. Tell him to call AAA (triple A). Your boss is gonna get sued over somthin he said you were "required to do "  Doesnt seem rite

Yea, I took everything into consideration on that. I do mall security and most of the time I'm roving outside; doing jump starts, helping people find their vehicles and whatnot. The ONLY thing they told me to be careful with are cars with airbags in the doors....which we are not allowed to do because I guess some guy in Cali got killed when it went off and shot the jim through his neck. Kinda far-fetched, but it didn't seem like something I'd want to pursue, just less work for me. I admit it seemed pretty stupid to me that they wouldn't have such a manual around. Don't most jims come with a manual anyway?

BTW, the liability is taken care of due to a release form the patron HAS to sign before I even lay a finger on it. It doesn't even state that the person performing the lockout is certified or not. Most places have forms exactly like this, even the casino I did valet at, but we used a wedge so you have to be pretty damn stupid to screw that up.

Anyway, thanks for the info.

Ask your Boss to send you to lock smith school if i remember it only a couple weeks longs. Have him pay for it, not you, then you can get all theinfo you want, and on a plus side if the job ever fails, you got something to fall back on, and you did not have to pay for it. FREE STUFF IS GOOD! posted_image

Most decent "slim jim" (or lock out tools as they are called) sets will also come with a book. This book is updated every year. Try the Snap-On truck or the MAC tools truck.... buy the whole kit, get the book. It isn't too badly priced.

This being said.....

There is no substitute to letting a professional do his/her job. Locksmiths have proper training and insurance. I wouldn't personally want a non-trained person trying to jim their way into any of my vehicles (newer VW's..... a locksmith's worst nightmare). You can do far more damage than you could ever immagine on a newer vehicle digging around with the improper tool/technique. Most locksmiths charge $40-50 for a lockout.... it's cheap.

Its all about the Big Eazy and Eazy Wedge. Best lock out tools made and the only one you need will work on 90 % of vehicles.

Works on 90 percent of vehicles? Wont work on my vehicle, hee hee! I "shaved" the doorlocks and removed the rods that went to the doorlocks. Also on the inside the door too. The only thing in the door is an actuator connected straight to the latch. Bad part is, when my battery does dead, I cant unlock my doors.posted_image

I can open your vehicle cutdog....I always go through to the inside (I used to work at a full serve gas station, and a large number of full serve customers are totally stupid) and I've never taken more than 10 minutes which isn't bad for someone without any sort of training.

Blackshuck, i said I rermoved the lock levers and rods from the inside too, Didnt you read? The only way to lock and unlock my doors is with the actuators, period. Even if the window was rolled down, you couldnt open my door unless you had the alarm keypad to unlock it. I also have ign controlled doorlocks which is a PITA because you cant get out of the car untill you shut off the ign. I have to shut off my car when giving people a ride home, just so they can get out my car. Sometimes it feels like being in the back of a a police car, lol

What brand/model alarm unit do you have in your car CutDog? What kind of car? Can't you set your ignition controlled locks on or off in the programming?

If I were you, I would refuse to do that unless given proper training. Call a lock smith or the police or someone. It will end up saving you a huge headache because without training you WILL end up messing something up at some point. Otherwise I agree with soundmasta, a brick will usually do it.

Iskidoo, its an old Crimestopper 2005fm . I've had it on there since 1998. Its on its last leg, well the transmitter is anyway. And its so old they dont make transmitters for it anymore. Whenever I get around to it, I wanna stab a 791xv or something similar in its place.

Sorry had a brain fart there....I guess you got me there then. Do you have a folddown backseat/hatchback? emergency entry wouldn't be bad to set up on that....how in the hell are you gonna get in your car if your battery dies?

I had that problem once before, my battery went dead. I had to climb under the car and reach up from under the front and unbolt the hood latch with a long socket extension. Once I got the hood open, I jumped the battery and unlocked the doors with my remote. PURE HELL I tell ya! I wanna try instaling a hood release cable to my drivers door lock to manually unlock it in an emergency, and have the release hidden somewhere underneath the car. But I still havent figured out how to not have the actuator pulling on the cable every time I lock and unlock the doors. Any ideas?

I got a story for you guys....!!!

While working at a Highend Custom shop. Brandy(The singer) drove her 745 in with a flat tire. She parked it on the street. Later when we were going to pull it into the shop, Found the battery was dead... Unable to jump start... Unable to put into neutral... Raining hard... Then Locked keys in car.... Closing time....

Try to slim Jim yourself out of that one lol
