'98 Chevy Astro...

Ok, I found the relay and resisters for the passlock bypass and all seems to be in order.                                      (Rcode 2.477k / resister trio 2.48k)

So, I am now convinced that the passlock feature on the vehicle is causing the malunction. (crank - no start, with security light flashing, will start after 10 minute time out... intermitant... key and/or remote) Try convincing the dealer there is a problem when you can't duplicate it on demand.

Am I missing something? I am grateful for any insight you can provide.

regards, Al

Are you missing something, Yes. You broke it/ you never should have messed with it before trying to convince the dealership that there was something wrong with the car.

Hey Al, you ever been to a store where there was some guy bein a jerk DEMANDING satisfaction........Thats what you need to do at the joint that put this unit in for ya.....or have em yank it and get a refund. Dont talk to a sales man or the asst. manager, git to the top of the chain. What did ya spend 3, 4, 500clams. you have paid for the right to complain.

Auex has a good point......you should have NEVER messed with it your self. By doing that, theynow have the rite to tell you to GO AWAY.....your in a spot

auex... LMAO, How do you break something that is already broken? And it was the Chevy dealer I was trying to convince there is an intermittant (days, weeks, months) "crank-no start".

kartuneman... I wish I could demand satisfaction. This installer went out of business shortly after the install, and I think I just found out why... he didn't solder any of his connections. I'll start with that.

Thx, Al

I'm not sure what vehicle your working on but look into the fuel pump wire.. (if it has one) I had to chase one down like this not to long ago..... Intermitency generaly means a loose connection somewhere. Seems to me if you can remote start this car sometimes , then the bypass is working (when it wants to) but something is loose or mabey throwing a high resistance somewhere.   Just a thought...

Good luck..

Here is also a little known tidbit for you. When's the last time the fuel filter was changed? A clogged fuel filter will make the FP work harder, and will also not allow it to build the required pressure. The computer, sensing diminished fuel pressure shuts the pump off. A scan will show "fuel cutoff". What cuts fuel off rather efficiently in a GM vehicle? Passlock.

After several hours of chasing an intermittant no-start on an S series truck, changing parts, scanning, metering, etc. As a final resort.... he checked the fuel pressure at the rail. 5psi short of minimum. Once in awhile. Changed filter... it improved slightly. Turned out... after working harder than designed for a while, the fuel pump was no longer able to supply the pressure necessary for reliable running.

Not really applicable..... but very interesting nonetheless. Sometimes, things get blamed on starters, when the starter may have absolutely nothing to do with it.....

Gus

PS: The vehicle in the story has a 130XV with a 555L that worked flawlessly for a year.

Intermittant problems are a pain..... there may be a loose connection somewhere. Restore everything in the passlock system to OEM. If the issue stops, then the problem is in the bypass..... if it continues, then the issue is the vehicle.
As an interesting lesson in troubleshooting, mildly starter related:
