Subject: Ultra Start 4500 or Viper 790??
Date Posted: November 02, 2002 at 6:34 PM

I'm looking for a 2-way remote starter/alarm and have narrowed down to 2 choices. The Ultra Start 4500 and the Viper 790. I can get them both for about the same price and the features that I want are on both. I like the looks of the 4500 better (mainly the remote) and it claims longer transmission range. I'm also doing my own install so the warranty would be void on the 790.

Which is the better system and why?

Thanks!!

the ultra start unit is the same piece as audiovox was using , havent heard good or bad about it but i prefer the marksman m-10 unit . i put in about 15-20 of them a month and very few problems. had one 2-way remote go bad but i suspect customer dropped it. other than that its a great unit.

TooDarkTinting, How's the distance on the 4500? Is it near what they say?

Securinu, Thanks For the reply. The M10 looks tempting, especially with the lower price tag. How's the distance in the real world?

Keep the ideas coming. I'm ready to buy. Thanks!!

I do not have a 4500 installed in my car but everone I ever installed they are happy with the distance and the alarm. I have a compu star installed and it SUCKS. the price of those thing makes it worse. I will be installing a 4500 in my car.

i was also a compustar dealer . i dropped them they were horrible about a 70% failure rate . and there support sucked said one thing did another . beware compustar is about to lower there prices but dont be tempted. they are horrible for warranty claims.  just my $.02 you can all do what you want.

I have heard that the Compustars range is less than stellar from several people now. I'm not even considering that one. I still think the 4500 is the way to go for me.

You guys have any install tips for an '01 F150 SuperCrew?
