I have a '94 Integra hatchback. I am in the final phases of installing my stereo, but I am having my alarm installed locally (compustar 2wss-as) and was thinking of having one of the functions on the remote to where it would pop the trunk open and then open itself via actuators. Just a couple questions on this though. Has anyone here done it? Would the actuators simply take place of the two gas-struts that normally hold the hatch up? I have a pretty heavy hatch (w/ wing and all). I bought a brand new set of hatch struts and they crapped out in a week. Any suggestions on this, how I might or might not go about doing it, etc.?
Thanks
First you have to find the actuators that will open it by themselves and let you manualy close it. Even if you wire them go both ways you'll want them close manually. I can't find em anywhere. If you do let me know. I did the doors on my show truck with actuators. Its really cool with the doors opening and closeing. But you can't get in and close the door by yourself. Also if you do find them and can gt the same size as the gas struts you have now and they are of similar desgin, then you can just replace the struts. If you cant get em close to your sturt's length you'll need to do some fabrication but nothing major. Good luck!

Check it out.
well, i talked to the local stereo shop that's installing my alarm and they say they'd have to take a good look at the car, but probably not possible because the size of the motor on the actuators to open the hatchback would be too large to fit where the struts normally do when the trunk is closed.
With some modification it could be done. I don't know how far into that you would wanna get though.
