just installed a viper 791 into this car and i just would like to know how you would wire up the external relay to trigger the door locks i am guessin the onboard relays on that alarm is not strong enough thats why they said to use relay to trigger the lock and unlock ------------- Kenny

Just attach the door lock wires directly from the Viper to the CRV. The CRV doesn't require a high current (-) to trigger the locks. Most systems that output 250 mA is sufficient to trigger the door locks on most Honda's.

jeff, i hate to say it, but this is the one honda on earth that does require relays. i've installed alarms on dozens upon dozens of crv's. most of them were completed smoothly without any problems, but on occasion, particularly with DEI units, or other units with dual-polarity lock/unlock, relays were required to give the lock/unlock wires a proper ground signal. i would not have believed this if i didn't see it for myself. i had a customer come back saying that the door locks wouldn't work via the alarm the next day after i had done it. checked all wiring several times and everything looked good. brain still came out with solid ground signals on lock and unlock, and the cars locks could be triggered with a common test light. (ooops, did i just say that i used a test light out loud?)
to sum up, i put in relays and everything worked just the way it should. this happened to me again on subsequent installs, as well as some of my other installer friends. so now, i just automatically do it on this particular car. use external relays, the way to do it is on this site in the "relays" section.

yeah jimmee i that is my problem exactly i connected it directly to the lock/unlock wires and next day it dont work. I hate to be a pain but can you please be a little more specific on the relay dont know which one it is in this relay section

A test WHAT !?!?!  LOL With the CR-V's that I did I can't remember ever using relays for the doors locks & I don' thtink that the customer would have not come back to me if the door locks failed......... strange I tell you !! to wire your relays, look at velocity motors' link that he provided, or look at this:

Is it possible to use the positive ouputs to trigger negative relays for the CRV? i mean say i reversed the dual polarity wires so that the lock was on unlock vice versa. This would give a positive output on pushing it. Then instead of using a fused 12 volt source on 86 and ground on 87, i used a common ground on 86 and 87. Would this work?
