Subject: Sunroof Wiring, 2002 Sequoia

I'm preparing to install a Clifford Avantguard 5 system into my 02 Sequoia.  I have the full blown deal with remote start, smart window modules, Blackjax (anti-car jacking), and a 529T to close the sunroof when arming.

I'm hoping that someone can help me track down the wiring colors for the sunroof motor.  I need to probably take down the liner to get to the sunroof motor, but was wanting to plan in advance the installation.  Does anyone know the colors for roll OPEN and CLOSE the sunroof so that I can plan the installation and which wires to cut?

If so, please email me the information if you don't mind.  Obviously it would normally be posted here, but I'm not sure how many others will benefit from it.  I guess there is always that chance.

Thanks,

Bret Bowman, bretbowman@yahoo.com

The diagram I looked at says sunroof open close not recommended. I have no idea why. I would imagine the wiring you want would be at the switch to open and close it. Be advised I have never seen a Sequoia.

Fair enough...   The 529T "technically" is properly wired at the motor.  if I COULD wire it at the switch it would be a LOT less work, but I know that they say to wire it at the motor.  I have wiring diagrams that show the switch wires, but none that show the motor wires.  I know that DEI doesn't recommend wiring the sunroof on these, but I want the thing to close when my wife arms the alarm, so I plan to make it work, it's just a matter of minimizing the headache that I'm about to endure.   :)

Anyone else have suggestions that I might want to keep in mind while pursuing this?

Bret

I just did one yesterday, wire the door locks at the drivers door using the key cilyndere wire if hold the lock wire long enough the windows and sunroof will close, wire another channel to give a long pulse to the lock wire and it will rool down the windows and open the sunroof.( only the 2 front windows) no modules required. Just make sure the car has this feature, open the car with the key, then hold the key until u see the windows and the sunroof open. Good luck. Follw this links it will be helpfull.

Another suggestion:

You can usually avoid taking the headliner down by just catching the motor wires at one of the pillars, usually the driver's side.

I had thought of this.  Unfortunately, I have a wiring diagram of the moonroof, that shows all the sires EXCEPT the motor wires.  I'm still trying to track one down (not giving up), but haven't found it yet.  I'm SO hoping that you're right.  If the wires on in the pillar, then I'll be one happy camper.  I think that there is a good chance of this because the sunroof has it's own ECU, which I'm sure is NOT also in the headliner.  If I can find that ECU (perhaps under the dash), then I'll certainly patch into the motor wires there.

Anyone know where I can get a wiring diagram that shows Toyota Sequoia moonroof MOTOR wires and not just switch wires (like the digrams that I already have)?

Brett, Have you tried going to your local toyota dealership and asking them to photocopy the pages for this? Alot of times they will help you out. Especially if it's the place you bought the car. I'm sure they would like a return customer. Be cool with the service guy or parts guy and you would be surprised especially if there aren't a bunch of people there waiting.  There are a couple of other options. If it's worth $25 dollars you could subscribe to an alldatadiy subscription. For one vehicle for $25 for one year you get access to a database that will tell you basically anything you want to know about your vehicle. The ofher option would be to ask in this car mechanic forum I visit. Lots of mechanics there who could look it up for you when they are at work. If you decide to go the alldata route please do so through that forum. They could use the support. For the record I have no affiliation with them. I'm just giving you the options I know.   Here is the import forum. You may need to register first I cant remember.  https://www.batauto.com/cgi-bin/Forum/db_TalkToMeV2.cgi?forum_name=imports

Thanks for the links and helpful suggestions/information.

Unfortunately, I didn't buy the car from a dealer, but I could ask.  I guess the worse that could happen is that they'd either say no or want to charge me.  I can probably figure it out, but I'm just trying to get this installation planned out while it's still too cold to do the install so that I'll be more prepared when I begin the install.

I will likely check out the alldatadiy subscription though.  $25 per year isn't bad and as long as the site contains the information that I need, it will certainly be worth it.

Thanks again for the suggestions.... any others will be appreciated as well.  We just got another couple inches of snow yesterday, so it may still be awhile before I get around to installing this thing anyway.

Thats good planning on your part Bret.   The alldata I am sure will tell you anything you need to know. I would be surprised if It didnt. I think at the alldata site there is a sample page for you to kinda see what you're getting.

Hey Boomer,

I also failed to mention that I flew a post on batauto and got a couple good responses there too.

Thanks for the reference!

I think that I may just order an extra 530T for the sunroof and rear window and just wire the sunroof so that it only closes when the alarm arms.  I do not need remote opening of the sunroof from the remote control.

Is there any real good reason to wire remote sunroof that I'm not thinking of?

Couldn't you use your roll-up module to wire into the key cylinder wire as a previous poster stated? Instead of sending + or - to the motor it could send a + or - to the key cylinder and roll up all your windows and sunroof at once...or am I missing something?

At least answer this for me.... someone?

Why does DEI NOT recommend automating sunroof open/close?

I think I got the sunroof figured out (at least to close when armed), but it's wiring negative (timed) output at the switch.  With the link above, I don't see how (or when) the signal output gets turned off.  If my sunroof and/or windows do not have a limiting swtich, then my sunroof motor might burn out using this configuration.  How is this avoided?
