How close should a relay be to the unit and whats a good location in the car for them. i'll be using about for and would like to keep them in one place together if possible.

The relay does not have to be close to the unit. If it's a starter kill relay, I like to keep that hidden. Beside that you can tied them up where you can find room to fit them. If you have time, you can mount them close to the factory relays so the job looks neat and tidy.    30-40 amp draw on the relay, you can keep them as close apart as up to 10 feet, so put them whereever you like.

it's just being used as an on/off relay for my power inverter to run my playstation 2, so i wont have to worry about switching it off
