I have a 5 speed VW Jetta 98 and I want to install a auto start car alarm on it. I got the Prestige APS 996. Just wondering how to bypass the clutch? Another question I have is if I need any other relays to make the alarm work? Thank you.

I forgot to mention that I have cruise control. Will bypassing the clutch make the cruise control not work beacuse if is sensative to the pressing of the clutch pedal.

no there is two plugs at clutch the first is the one you need the second is the cruise control. there are two wires at plug you have to make a relay like that

85 is ground from remote start

86 12v(+) put a fuse

87 is a jump from one wire at clutch

30 is the other jump from the other wire at clutch

that way you keep the factory settings of the clutch and is only by pass when you make remote start, MAKE SURE YOU LEFT YOUR CAR IN NEUTROLposted_image

The APS-996 Remote Start/Alarm System is designed to be used with Automatic Transmission- Fuel
Injection Vehicles Only! Automatic Transmission!

There is always a way around it! That is because they dont want to get sued when someone leaves there car in gear and hits someone or something.

Yeah there's a way around everything including common sense but you should be using a remote starter designed for a manual transmission. Let me guess your next words. "I'm not one of those guys that forgets his car in gear without the ebrake on. I'm always safe so I'm not worried about it." They make manual safe units for a reason.

One night of booze is all it takes to leave that sucker in gear. Good Luck!!

Do you know how manual auto starter works, they are a pain in the ass and cost twice the amount of a regular alarm. I guess about the boozing, your not that smart so no wonder you would leave your can in gear. (I want to keep my car not get it taken away for drunk driving)

Yeah I ought to know how they work, I install them. They only require a few steps to consciously insure that your being safe. Engine running, nuetral, e-brake up, tap brake twice, exit vehicle. I guess the only thing that makes it a pain in the ass is the extra step of having to tap that brake pedal twice.

Sixty seven bucks for basic start/keyless shipped is hardly twice the cost. https://www.etronics.com/product.asp?stk_code=ult1256m

I've seen 2-way paging systems on Ebay for $112.00 shipped. https://cgi.ebay.com/dll?ViewItem&category=48611&item=5736827502&rd=1&ssPageName=WD1V

And 2-way paging with Alarm for $142.00 shipped. https://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/dll?ViewItem&rd=1&item=5717547448&category=33724&sspagename=WD1V

This is very difficult....
Auto Reservation Mode
Step 1 - While the vehicle is running, place into neutral and apply the park brake.
Step 2 - Press and release the brake pedal twice. The park lights will flash twice,
the horn (optional) will honk twice and the doors will unlock (optional).
Step 3 - Turn the ignition key off and the vehicle will continue running.
Step 4 - Exit the vehicle and close all the doors. The vehicle will then shut off.

Yea and if you forget something from your car you have to open your door and do all that sh*t over again. I know what you are trying to say that it is the safe way, but if you bypass your clutch and use it responsible then it will work fine. Right now I am trying to figure out a way to make my relay in a way which I have to have my ebrake on or else the bypass will not work. If you have an idea on how to do this please let me know

I had bad experiences buying car alarms on ebay, they are broken a lot of times and you cannot get warrenty from the manufacture and the seller takes too long to respond and so on. From the place that I got my remote starter alarm, the only one he had for the manual is the Compustar which was like $280 (this is with the guy knowing me and giving me a good price). I paid for mine $140, so for me it was double the price.

It also depends on the person and how they drive, I always leave my car in neutral and put my ebrake on, I hate leaving it in gear. Its all about the driver. I cant return it now, I already started working on it.

If you have an idea how to bypass the clutch making sure that the ebrake is on, PLEASE LET ME KNOW, so that I and other people can sleep better at night.

Ahh yes, they thought of that as well... Also from the same owner's manual I posted before, here's the answer to your question:

Note: Reservation Mode will reset if the doors of the vehicle are opened. To re-enter the vehicle without canceling the Reservation Mode (forgot something..) The vehicle must first be remote started. While the vehicle is running the door may be opened, when done in the vehicle, close the door and hold the button until the remote starter shuts off.

This unit would turn any remote start unit designed for automatics into a manual safe system with a reservation mode. https://peripheralelectronics.com/periph_products/cd_changer_autos/instructions/Peripheral%20-%20NSS.pdf

At the very least you should connect your hood pin shutdown input to a hood pin and to the e-brake wire(diode isolated). This still doesn't insure that the vehicle won't start in gear and try to lurch forward but I guess it's a little safer than your original idea. The NSS would be the safest bet though.

I was told by someone if I directly connect a wire to the starter by the engine, I will not need to bypass my clutch. Can anyone tell me what main wire get connected there?

Ok I just finished mine auto starter, Just connect the starter wire directly to the starter itself. On my VW Jetta 98, the starter is on the right side of the motor and has a wire that comes out on the top right hand corner of the starter. Just check the wire before connecting, it will give off +12 V only in the crack possition, everything else will be 0 volts.
DONT FORGET, DO THIS AT YOUR OWN RISK< CAR CAN START IN GEAR THIS WAY (NOT SAFE). BE CAREFUL leave your car in neutrl with handbreak up. Now I am trying to figure out a way for me to connect my handbreak to the alarm so without it being pulled up, the remote starter will not work.

I CANNOT understand some FOOL wanting to save a dollar ......and not getting the correct remote starter for his manual trans,......there are so many different manufactures.

Run some kid over by accident and the 100 dollars you saved won't buy you an hour with a lousy lawer........

UNBELIEVABLE....posted_image
