I recently put in a Valet 552T remote car starter in a 2000 caravan and everything else works minus the power locks. The wiring information I found says to use a 249 ohm and 1.5K ohm resistors to lock and unlock. I was unable to locate a 249 ohm resistor so I got a 150 and 100 and put them in series and measured the resistance which is 249.

The problems are I can either have the lock or unlock work. They will not work together, only one or the other. Any suggestions?

You did use two relays to accomplish this installation did you not ?

I didn't use any relays. I followed the diagram on this site and I didn't see any relays in the Caravan diagram.

How many relays and how should it be wired?

If your alarm's door lock outputs supply positive and negative pulses, you'll need to use diodes or relays for both lock and unlock to work properly. If you followed the digram that you linked to above, you'll see the diodes inline before each resistor respectively. If you want to use relays instead, connect them as follows:

Relay 1 (lock)
30 to ground
85 to 12V+
86 to (-) lock output of alarm
87 to WHITE/ Green wire through a 1500 ohm resistor
87a Not Used

Relay 2 (unlock)
30 to ground
85 to 12V+
86 to (-) unlock output of alarm
87 to WHITE/ Green wire through a 249 ohm resistor
87a Not Used

I tried using two diodes as shown in the diagram and it didn't work. I tried the diodes on both sides of the resistors just to be sure ( polarity on the diode was correct, tested with the ohm meter).

I tried connecting them seperately to make sure I had it connected right. The wierd part is the lock function would work with a diode as shown in the diagram but the unlock part would not work through the diode. Unlock would work if it was connected seperately through a 249 ohm resistor and no diode (that should have told me relay right there). I think the relays will probably cure my problem. I didn't even think to try a couple of relays. (I should have thought of that, dooooough!)

Thanks for the quick reply.
