I bought a used vehicle a few weeks ago and it has a security system installed.  How do I find out what brand it is and get a remote for it.  The Used car dealer claimed that the car was a repo, and does not have the remotes.  I found the black box, but it does not have a manufacturer's name on it.  Is there a way to find out the mfg'er and get a new remote for the system?

Best advice is to get a new alarm. For what it cost to get 2 new remotes, you could probably get a decent entire new alarm system.

Without a name or model listed on the brain you are screwed and will have to get a new alarm. You could always post a picture and see if anyone recognizes it.

even if you know which manufacturer of alarm it is, being able to find remotes for it is a lot harder than you may think...especially if it's a older model. in addition, you will have the additional task of finding the proper method of programming those remotes to your existing brain. searching for the correct installation/programming manual is far from being easy. CutDog504's advice is correct. the cost of 2 remotes is unjustifiably high in comparison to a new alarm, particularly in this case....you don't even know if that alarm is still in good working order!
