ok so im installing a viper 791 remote start on my friends mazda 3.. i hooked up everything the way it should be, starter kill works, and valet take over works.. but i cant get it to remote start.

i tried leaving the key in the ignition in the acc position, then activating the remote start, and it worked, but without the key in, it doesnt work. he just bought the car and requested to get his ignitions anti theft device removed, which i believe was a key ring that needed to be rubbed against his center console to allow start. they replaced a chip inside of a module located under his dash to accomplish this.

the start wire was hooked up to a relay, which was hooked up to the module with the chip i said above, which was hooked up to a little box which i assume was the reciever for the anti theft key chain. i tried placing the remote start after the relay and before, and no luck starting.

can someone please tell me whats up and how to fix this??

you need to figure out if its hooked up to something else such as the keysense wire which would activate this unit once a key was inserted into the ignition..   trace the wires some more but to me thats seasm what it would be, just put the ky in the ignition but leave it off and then try remote starting it, also, do the same with a copy(one of those just metal ones u cna get at a locksmith) if both of them remote start it then it has to do with the keysense.

The keysence on this car needs to be triggered, via a ground while running (use a relay, its a possative) or the car WON"T start.... The typical GWR wire activates 1 or 2 seconds before crank, and stays on for 1 or 2 seconds after run time. This will disarm the factory security while remote started and rearm after runtime.  That, as well as the transponder bypass. and the car should start!

I hope this helpsposted_image

so which wire from the viper would i use to trigger the keysense? we just ordered the transponder bypass today, we took the key to a locksmith as the first reply suggested, and he placed it in a device which recognized it as a transponder key. i didnt think the car would have it initially since it is the lowest, or base model mazda 3.  so i assume the transponder wiring will be fairly easy to do, but how do i make the keysense work?

you don't need keysense in this car, it will remote start with the alarm armed however it goes honk honk alot, you do need the transponder bypass, or nothing works.

the alarm can be bypass by a auxiliary output of your remote starter module.

Use this module to bypass the key sense.   But call the seller to see if it work with your car model and year, I think this work but it is posible that I am wrong.   I buy stuff from this people and I don't have any problem.

am i the only person who realizes hes saying that the antitheft was removed.. did u use a metal key copy like i told u to? cause if it remote starts with that just in then it has to do with the keysense wire...   they might have wired up this permenant bypass to activate with the keysense wire.   But another question i have is why would u get the factor antitheft removed?? that makes no sense to me...

sorry i didn't read all the replays but you are right, only find the key sense cable and with a relay when the remote starter is activate the relay is activate too and bypass the key sense with a negative ground wire by the relay contacts.  in most cars the key sense is a contact to ground (-) when the key is inserted.

hey thanks for all the feedback.. ok so i told my friend to take his key to get a regular metal copy made, and he said that the locksmith told him that the key was transponder equipped.  Now my friend asked to get the factory anti theft removed because he had intentions to place a remote start on it before he bought it, and just wanted to make things simpler (so much for that haha).  So all the dealer did was change a chip located in a box so a sensor in the center console would close the ignition circuit permantly, rather than requiring a signal from the mazda key ring that accomidates that sort of anti theft device to allow start. As for the immobilizer, ive never worked with one before so I wouldnt know if that is still active.  The lock smith placed the key in a reader that detected the key's transponder, so we assume the immbolizer on the actual igntion harness still remains.  We got the 555u bypass module and will see if thats the problem, but ill try the key sense trick first thanks for all the help!!
