I have a used 2001 Eddie Baeur Expedition with the 4.6 engine.  It has a remote start which the previous owner had installed, but something is keeping the keyless entry module from going into programming mode.  I took the driver's side dash off, but the only box I see is the remote start module.  I did not see another black box for a bypass module.  Just wondering, to all experienced installers (which I am not... not security anyway) where would you normally place a bypass module.  I'm sure there has to be one somewhere or something else keeping it from programming mode, but I can't figure out what it maybe.

take of the plastic casing around the key cylinder, and see if you find a ring around the cylinder, and if you do then just follow the wire back to the module, and if you see a glass pebble (looks like one at least) do the same thing.

When you say " something is keeping the keyless entry module from going into programming mode " what are you trying to do. A key in the universal bypass module will not interfere with keyless programming options. Are you trying to reprogram the RS's keyless entry ?

Oh... well, I took the truck to the dealer and they did the thing where they switch it on and off 8 times.  The doors should lock and unlock to acknowlege the truck is in programming mode and then I can program my remotes for keyless entry.  They can't get the truck to go into that programming mode for my remotes.  I talked to the guy at circuit city today and he mentioned my module could be bad.  Whoever put the remote start on could have touched some wires and fried my module.  Guess that could be another idea.  It would explain why I don't see a bypass module anywhere under the dash, only a remote start module.

I think I know the bypass is.  I was looking online for different by pass modules and I found a picture of a 555F FORD PASSLOCK INTERFACE MODULE. I have seen something which looks like it under my dash.  It's a small square which looks a lot like a relay.   I am going to try unhooking it this weekend to see if it will allow my computer to go into programming mode.  If it doesn't, I guess I will look into buying a new PATS module from Ford.

Its not the bypass check and see if you have the truck started if the keyless entry works. If it does then they have cut the ignition feed to he keyless entry module so hat factory  keyless will work with it running, normaly a ford keyless will not work while running. The keyless entry should be mounted on the fire wall on the drivers side up high look for a wire cut then put it back together to program.

Thanks Chris.  When you say  to check to see if the keyless entry works, are you referring to the remotes or the keypad on the door?  Neither of my remotes work.  Looks like they are not programmed.  I do know if I have the truck running, I can enter my code on the keypad and still unlock the door.  I will look for the cut wire on the module.  I have unplugged it and then plugged it back in before, but I didn't notice a cut wire.  I will examine it closely though and check for one.

I was talking about the remotes if none of the remotes are working you will have to test the ign. wire at the keyless module. The wire will be black and pink i believe there are two black and pinks.
