Try to pick the best setup. Is it better to add to the factory unit or should I have an aftermarket one installed?

$$$ wise, aftermarket will get you more than factory.

factory alarm is standard, you cannot change it.
it monitors doors hood and trunk, has starter kill and also transponder immobilizor.
