Hello,
I am hoping to gain help with some problems I'm having with an Astroflex 3006A install on a 98 Dodge Caravan. I will be trying the manufacturer but am not sure I'll get a lot of help since I am not an installer. So, I am trying here also.
First problem is when I test the main harness (251) connections the parking lights do not work right. This makes sense because it appears the lights must use a resistor since there is 10.4 volts on a GREEN / WHITE wire at the switch. Jumping this wire to ground turns the park lights on. However, the 3006A hookup and test diagram indicates 12 volts provided to the park lights. What is needed by my determination is for the 3006a to provide a ground. Anyone know for sure? For now I just have the park lights disconnected from the system.
Second problem is when I perform a remote start, the van starts fine, starter cuts out, engine runs for 5-10 seconds then shuts down. The module LED flashes 6 times which indicates transmission not in N or P fault. I have the WHITE/ orange harness 253 wire in the park tab position as determined by the detection process. Regardless, the transmission position shouldn't matter once the park tab position is used. Further, this fault should be a no start fault, shouldn't it, rather than a shutdown? There is no factory alarm installed and I have no alarm features installed yet.
The third problem, which I'm really not too worried about yet, is while investigating the door lock hookup, I noticed with the left BCM connector connected and the right connector disconnected, the lock button only works, unlock does not work. The right connector must be connected for both lock/unlock to work. This tells me that a lock wire is in one connector and unlock in the other connector. For a single wire system, what is going on here?
One final thing, is there any Astroflex info available anywhere. Their web site isn't to useful. I'm finding other mfg. sites more useful. I bought an Astroflex because I heard they are pretty good systems. I just bought the van and my maint manual hasn't arrived yet. Hoping it has some real wire diagrams. Any help sure will be appreciated.
Thanks
John
Ok, looks like I'm going to have to use a relay for the parking lights, so I can handle that as long as I'm not missing something else. I'll use the 12 volt 3006a signal to pass the park light 10.4 volts to ground.
The doors should be no problem, I'm going to use the factory relays as described on another web site. Just thought the the 2 connectors affecting the lock operation was unusual based on what I've read.
However, the shutdown problem is really concerning me. Hope someone knows why.
Thanks again,
John

They are (Lifetime warrenty). They are dealer install unit only so finding help on it will be hard if the unit didn't come from a legitimate dealer. However, you are in the right area as there are a few dealer here on this site who can help you out and won't questions the source of your purchase. Here is a diagrams to help you start trouble shooting the issue concerning your car.

Be careful whose advice you buy, but be patient with those who supply it.

Thanks for the info Pencil, you included some additional info that I didn't have.
Also, I contacted Astroflex tech support and they actually talked to me. The problem I asked them about was the 10 second shutdown. According to the tech guy I just need to take the ORANGE / white wire in the 253 harness from the 3006A module park position and put it to ground. Apparently, some of the modules are not grounded right internally. I'll have to get home and try this out. Hope it works. Has anyone else heard of, or experienced this?
Thanks again,
John
You got lucky my friend......the tech support is for dealers only. They must have had a slow day.....Astro has since then eliminated the whole auto trans shift position "thing" They were very safty minded....too much so, I think!

Yes, KTM, I was sweating it, but had to give a try to Astro since I wasn't hearing much here, and the unit definetely wasn't performing as advertised. With the transmission sense wire grounded as per Astroflex everything works great. Locks and lights all working well also. The wife is a very happy person here in Minnesota.
Thanks again for the support,
John
