I'm looking to get a new alarm/remote start for my 05 F150 FX4 that's coming soon.  In a past thread I was told to go with Compustar.  But after looking at DEI's site, I really like the Avantguard 5 with the Cliffnet deal.  Only problem with the avantguard is that I really want a 2-way transmitter.  At work and at home I can not see my car to tell if it has started.  The cliffnet interested me because I'm always monkeying around and changing options.

I didn't mean it had to be Cliffnet.   Are their any other manufactures that use something that is like cliffnet.  As in you can use a laptop to set it up.

looking at the Clifford site, I can't find any G5 alarms that use Cliffnet and are 2way.    I was thinking about maybe getting a 2way clifford that has the wizrad port and then adding then omnistart module.  Doesn't seem possible though.

and the clifford rsx that is two way and remote start doesn't use the cliffnet, correct?

I think you've answered my question already.  For the price of the alarm, I think I will live without the cliffnet feature.

what would you guys recommend between the Viper 791xv and the Hornet 564T.  To me they seem to be the same.  Except the Hornet is cheaper and has a clock on the transmitter and also does auto temperature starting.

DEI also has feature like clifnet, it is called a bitwriter. All there 2 way alarms can use it.

isn't the bitwriter a little programmer thing?  Kind like one of those diagnostic port programmers?

yes, it is... you're correct.

However, cliffnet software will work with any Clifford alarm that uses the cliffnet data port.  I have an Avantguard 5 and when I load up the software it asks me to select from an entire list of Clifford alarm systems, which one I have.  Though I have not owned any other Clifford system OTHER than the AvantGuard 5, I'm assuming that most other Clifford systems use, or are compatible with, the cliffnet wizard software.

Also, Clifford is scheduled to release a NEWER version of the Avantguard 5 this summer that includes two way remotes.  If you CAN wait until then (I couldn't), then I'd wait for that alarm.

Oh, you'll also need to find a DEI reseller that is willing to sell you one "over the counter", contrary to DEI reseller policy.  Good luck on that, but it is possible.

Hope that helps!    posted_image
