Don't know why every post displays wrong - can't work that out - let's have another go....

I've installed clifford IntelliStart 4 on my 1992 Saab 900 and the IntelliStart module does not sense RPM input.

Does anyone have any ideas?

It has learnt the RPM on one occasion about three months ago when I was installing but I have not got it to work since then. I've connected the grey / black wire to one of the wires on the coil. I tested the terminal I was connecting to using the volt meter and the reading varies with the RPM. Both terminals produce a varying voltage with RPM but one of them reads higher than the other - the instructions say to connect to the higher reading terminal - I've tried it on both terminals. I've checked to make sure the reading is getting right through to the multi-plug connector at the IntelliStart end and that's also fine.

The instructions also say you can connect to any other RPM varying voltage such as the output to the tach or one of the wires on the injectors. I'm a bit confused about it having worked once before but not since. When I try to set the RPM using CliffNet it displays "nocode"  in the status box and chirps twice to indicate that RPM programming has failed. Similarly if trying to program the RPM using the valet-button and the remote control I get a similar response.

Does anyone know if you can get firmware updates or flash-code for the IntelliStart device?  or maybe if there's something else I can try.

For the moment the car works ok in "no tach" mode - BlackJax does not work and the doors don't autolock.

Thanks for your help.

Emmett.

prolly have wrong tach wire or something posted_image

use volmeter to test, set to AC volts, black to ground red to tach wire, start engine, rev and the voltage should increase :)

tach wire is the one the instructions say to use - from the back of the coil. It does vary with voltage and it has worked in the past !! just won't work any more. The reading is carried all the way through to the intelliStart module.
