Well, I can't seem to get the 555l to work right.  sometimes it does, sometimes it doesn't.  I got the PLXR in the mail today, and was looking at the diagram.  It looks a little different than the 555l.  Now it looks like I only have to tap into the yellow passlock wire (for the blue data output from the PLXR).  Is that right?  I don't need to cut the yellow wire for the PLXR?  And will I need the key sense wire hooked up for this car?  If yes, any one know the color of the wire?

And one last question will I need to add diodes or will I need to relay the starter wire for a 97?

Thanks

tim

Hi,

On the last one I did I used the 6 amp diode method two diodes in parallel. I figured there was less of a chance of failure. I've had pretty good luck with the PLXR so far. Be sure to program it for passlock 1 though.

ok thanks.  and I dont need to cut the yellow wire for this bypass?  just tap into it?

I believe you cut it. The diodes keep feedback from coming back into your autostarter. Do you have the diagram that the PLXR came with? If you don't I can fax you a copy or send it to you in an e-mail.

Oh I have the diagram.  I was actually talking about the yellow passlock wire.  With the 555l I had to cut the yellow wire, and 2 wires from the 555l went to the opposite ends.  But with the PLXR it looks like you just tap into the yellow passlock wire.

Thanks

Yes, you just tap into the passlock wire. Kind of strange I don't profess to understand everything about how things work but it does. Don't be suprised if you trip the passlock system into shutdown. It's no biggie just wait with the ign on for 10 min and it will reset and work fine.

ok thanks.  I don't think that passlock I goes into shut down mode.  at least I haven't been able to do it and I meesed around with it quite a bit lol...  hopefully this module will work better than the 555l does.

thanks again!

I've had both great and terrible luck with PLXR's I'd say about 8 out of 10 work for me. Can't count how many I've come across that were bad out of the package. But yeah you jsut haveto tap into the yellow passlock wire in the car.

I only ever had trouble with needing to use the diodes once on an older sunfire. I never had to on a cavi.

Recently I've been doing my own passlock 2 bypasses with a resistor and a relay, been alot more reliable then the PLXR, plus alot easier to get instock (at least at Circuit City...can'twait to have DEI back)

well...  It doesn't work...  I don't know why I thought it would...  I hate this car, I have Cavaliers...  I'm never going to try to do one ever again.  I'm going to take the stupid starter out and put it in something else.  Thanks for all the help guys, but I don't think this car will ever remote start correctly.  I should have known that the plxr wouldn't work...

Did you get the proper bulb test wire to attach to the VIOLET / WHITE wire ? Also you have to have the STARTER wire from the remote start hooked up.

I had all the wires connected.  I got the bulb test from the power wire harness.  It was under the 2 red power wires I believe.  I tested it, it went to ground during crank.  I even found the key sense wire and wired that up.  I don't know maybe this Cavalier just wont work...  I'm ready to drive the car into the ocean.

I programmed it, a few times, It was set for passlock I, and I programmed the resistance.  LEDs seemed to light how they were supposed to.

i dunno
