My alternator went out on my 2001 F150 Lariat. The Ford shop said "the Yellow and Black wire (alt. sense wire) connected to the alternator was preventing it from charging." This had been on my truck all winter and working fine until the alternator went out. has anyone had problems with this? The dealer said something about the "run sense" wire dropping the alternator wire voltage 1/2-volt. I know for a fact it's wired right so that is not the problem. My truck has 90k miles on it. Is this about the time it was going to go out anyway? Another thought i had was i have a high output amp that maybe this shortened the alternators life? Any idea's or thoughts? Is it better to use the alternator sense or plug coil sense?

I agree. Just like a dealership to pass the buck to the installer of a remote start. The YELLOW/BLACK wire is just an input wire and doesn't inhibit any electrical outputs that hte alternator has.

Sounds to me the only thing being charge here is you. Bring it somewhere else and get a second or third professional opinion. Not a bad idea bring it to a different dealership.

the only thing close to that i've EVER seen is on SOME fords there is a third ignition wire that hased to be hooked up or the alt wont give power to the batery (maybe a relay cut off or something?) i don't know how or why that would make your alt go bad, but check a few different sites for wireing diagrams, if you see any that say anything about additional ignition wires, try powering that up... maybe.. i still don't know how that would do anything to the alt, but whatever,

ps... dealerships pass the buck, like said up there, no one wants to have to do warentee work,, those a***oles
