Subject: Dome Light gone?

Ok, im working on a 98 civic.  The dome light switches were all working correctly before I started... I know.. HAHA... Anyway, So when I finished installing this K-9 alarm the drivers side dome light switch in the door does not work.  I tried changing it with a working one from the passenger side and still nothing.  The even weirder thing is that if I open the door while the lights are on I get the buzzing noise, but when I shut the door, the buzzing stops.  So obviously there IS a signal going through to that switch, and I used a voltmeter and it is measuring 12v.  I didnt connect anything directly to this switch I connected using the dome light wire.  I tried unplugging most of the alarm wires, yet nothing solved the problem.  Is it possible I burnt something out from this one door switch?  Because it is still reading a voltage, and the buzzer still works with the lights on and door open.  Just the dome light does not trigger with the door open.  Any ideas anyone?  And suggestions would be GREATLY appreciated.

i dunno man that a weird one.

i presume you've tapped into the dome light for the alarm to trigger and does the alarm trigger when the drivers door opens.

if you disconnect the alarm wire does it start working again.

Nope, there was no factory alarm, and we havent changed the headunit yet.  And the alarm does not trigger with the drivers door?  This is totally confusing me too?  Any clues?

I think What Dare was getting at is that the head unit is usually on the same cicuit as the dome!

have to chase the wires and make sure the wire and connections are ok

Uh, first problem, there is no switch "in the door" of that car ( I own one). Pull the switch out of the "door jamb" and take a meter set to continuity and see if it works. If it works then it sounds like you might have a loose harness under the dash.

OK, Thats what I meant, the switch out of the "Door Jamb".   Anyway, I have switched that switch with one from the back door that is properly working and it still doesnt work the dome light.  And like I said earlier there is obviously something working since when I shut the door it cuts the "headlight on" buzzer off.  So does this one part go to any kind of junction that I might have messed up just the dome light switch part of it for this one door?

Ok, what part of there probably is a loose harness somewhere did you not get? It could be after the buzzer but before the domelight.

does the radio come on with the ignition turned on, if not you wacked a fuse somewhere.  otherwise, try reseting the computer by disconecting the battery and reconecting. sometimes the computer shut it off automatically to stop battery drain.  But otherwise it's probably a harness.
