Any help greatly appreciated.
I am installing a Commando remote strta/security system on a 1998 Lexus RX 300. Everything is hooked up except the factory disarm and the door locks. The wiring diagram I have simply says the disarm is with the locks - no other description. For the door locks the locator indicates it is inside the passenger side door. I s this correct? Do I need to remove the door panel in order to get to the disarm and door locks?
My understanding is that Lexus is simply a Toyota and that the RX300 is build on the Camrys basic frame/engine.
Again, any help or insights any of you can provide will be greatly appreciated.
I've only done a few Lexus vehicles, but many, many Toyotas. Yes, the RX300 is a jacked up Camry. A handful of Toyotas are using the new-style locks. I've found ways around the system on the Avalon and Highlander, but I think you're going to have to go into one of the doors on your car. If you want 2-stage unlocking, and your Commando unit has that feature, you can make the interface in the driver's door.
Factory disarm: The factory alarm will disarm when the car is started with a key. There's a blue wire with silver dots coming from the ignition switch----this is the key sense wire--- it will show a ground when the key is inserted. Use an output from your Commando that will put out a ground while the remote start is on, and attach it here. You don't need a relay; a direct hookup is fine.
Thanks very much, that should get me back on track. Am I correct in assuming I can use the factory keyless entry as long as I don't mind lugging two signal devices around - one for the doors, the other for the remote start?
The OEM alarm disarms with unlock. Yes you are correct you can use the factory keyless if you want. Check to make sure it works when the engine is running though.
Yeah, what he said---the factory keyless on Toyotas doesn't work with the engine running; I'd imagine Lexus is the same.
