I bought this alarm for my cavalier but never installed it and now I have another car (2001 Grand am GT) and apperantly the door locks are not the same and the guy who sold it to me says I will need a one wire lock kit to install it on the grand am. I beleive what it originally came with is a two wire door lock inverter which has a 3wire plug on one end (which goes to the brain)then goes to a little black box (inverter)and then has two positive wires, which I beleive would hook up to the door lock wires.
It will take 2 weeks for this part to ship so I want to know if there is just another way around it... with relays or something

i dont beleive they are different the lock wires should be light blue and white high in the drivers kick pannel
Your car uses the same wire to lock and unlock the car. The difference is the varying current to accomplish lock/unlock. According to the wiring diagram

The car locks with a straight ground contact and unlocks with a 1500 ohm resistor ground contact.
My advice is based on the alarm's lock/unlock outputs being negative. Acquire two 30a relays and one 1500 ohm resistor. First off, find the right wire. Test it for lock/unlock. For lock, touch the body ground of the car with the car's lock/unlock wire...for unlock, attach one end of the 1500 ohm resistor to body ground and probe the car's lock/unlock wire with the other end.
Take two 30A relays Wire both relays poles 86 to fused 12 volt. Wire both relay poles 30 to body ground. Connect the lock wire from the alarm to the first relay's pole 85 and connect pole 87 to the lock wire from the car. Connect the unlock wire from the alarm to the second relay's pole 85 Connect one end of the 1500 ohm resistor to pole 87 and the other end to the unlock wire in the car.
All things aside. When you lock the car, the relay will make a straight ground connection to the lock wire in the car locking the doors. When you unlock the car, the relay will make a ground connection through the 1500 ohm resistor to the same wire and unlock the car. The reason you are using relays is to prevent feedback on the line (both the car's wire and the alarm's wire) This is how you wire doorlocks on newer mazda's and they work everytime...
