ok everyone, ive got a question hopefully someone can answer.

Hooking up a viper 791 to the camry. I got all of the remote start wires hooked up and it does remote start but for some reason the gauges dont light up. The gauges do work for a second when it first starts up but then immediately all of the dials shut off and nothing triggers any lights. If someone could give me a clue as to whats going on or what to check id be extremely grateful.

Thanks

Steven

How did you hook up the light output from the Viper to the Camry ? Did you solder or not ?

I highly recommend that you solder all your connections then. If the connection is not 100 % solid, you will get intermittent problems with the unit.

i think u didnt understand me. not the parking lights but the gauge lights as in the indicator lights in the dash. When you power up a car all of the dials usually go all the way up then come down to zero and the abs and all of the other indicator lights blink. This is so you know that everything is working. The whole gauge cluster is dead. Thats my problem. i know all of the other connections are good. The problem is i dont know why the gauge cluster isnt powered. It does power up for a second after remote start but immediately dies. Thanks everyone.

What does it do when you start with your key?

Ohhhhhhhhhh I see now, the problem is that you might not have the 2nd IGN wire powered up and if you do, did you use a relay ? Did you use the (-) 2nd IGN output fromt he Viper ?

i used the 2nd ign wire from the viper. and it does register 12v but before the system was registering all of the connections as 14 volts once the car was started. I was thinkin a short somewhere or something?

the wierd thing is that it does the same with the key. I thought pressing the brake might energize the system but it does nothing. when i use the key all it does is start teh car the lights blink and the gauges move for a second then it all dies.

I think you should go back and solder all your connections and also make sure that you have a solid absolute ground for the RS. This would cause you problems if not grounded properly.

I agree with velocitymotors t-taps damage the wires go back and solder.if your 100% sure you got the correct wires then go back and solder your connections.

I dont believe soldering the wires is the problem because i had recently changed the wires. The problem was that the car would remote start without problem but then the climate controls wouldnt work until the brake pedal was pressed. I thought it was a wiring issue with the 2nd ignition and redid all of the RS wires. Now the gauges dont work. The ground is definitely good so i think it may be another issue.

okay hang on...

the climate controls wouldn't work under remote start until you pressed the brake??????  why doesn't that shut the starter off???   or do you mean after you turn on the key and press the brake??

do the gauges work at all??  are they still powering up then dying?  have you gone through the fusebox??

what happens when you start it by key?

i would disconnect the remote starter and check everything

Thanks for everyone who replied to my old message, I got the viper 791 installed. now i have a whole new bigger problem. Anytime i start the car and shift into drive the car dies. the oil light and battery light come on and i have to restart the car. I can start the car in neutral and then shift into drive and everything works but then if i shift back up to neutral then it dies again. Any ideas? Help me please im in dire need of some assistance.

Having just installed an alarm/rs myself with minor problems that were easy to fix, I'll give you my 2 cents.  If it were me I would triple check all connections and make sure I was using the right wiring diagram.  I had 3 or 4 different wiring diagrams for my truck and all were slightly different.  The only way I figured it out was to use a DMM and physically confirm that these were the correct wires to connect.  Additionally, I studied the manuals and tried to understand the alarms processes so I wasn't just connecting wires but understood why I was connecting them.  Also as others above have said...solder all major connections.  Sorry I don't have a quick fix but hopefully my advice is logical and will fix your problem.  Sometimes starting over is better than trying to fix mistakes.  Good luck.

both ignitions are getting power because the climate controls work just the car dies after shifting into drive
