HU alarm idea

I was thinking about setting up a standalone security for a HU. What if you have some kind of sensor on the HU that would trigger when the unit is being pulled out. Assuming that you don't have an alarm brain, could you wiring the sensor to a relay that would trigger the piezo like a 531T hidden inside the car? You can put a switch in the piezo circuit so that you can turn it off when you're working on HU. If you use a back strap or a chain to make it harder to remove the HU, it would be harder to steal the HU because of the piezo going off while the HU is being removed.

The reason for a stand alone setup is to make it universal and it would work with OEM alarm system too.

What do you guys think?

Nice idea, but you are just a bit late with your idea. They are call security code and faceoff HU. Don't waste your time on it. I mean, the faceoff HU has been around for a long time now. Don't see why you don't look into getting one of these HU. Second, if the UNINSTALLER get into your car. Your alarm is going off already. Why make extra work for yourself of putting in another alarm? Extra strap and chain, well that's up to you if you really feel the HU is worth that much. However, you should also consider the potential damage that can be inflicted upon your car when the UNINSTALLER is trying to get your HU out.


If you want to save the world. Work on some sort legislation and get it passes in to law that if convicted of stolen property you get a ten years minimum before you can even call you parole officer to tell them that you will be home late tonight.

I see your point but most people are too lazy to take the face off the HU. And I can get another face if I took the HU. As far as security code, only couple of high end HU has that feature.

The saying about 'if they want anything inside your car, they'll get it'. I am just trying to make it harder. Thanks for your input.

It's pretty much the same way with seatbelt it's there and people are still getting hurt because they forget to put them on.

As for getting another HU face. It's pretty expensive to get it replace. UNINSTALLER would never put in the initial $$$ to reap the reward. Trust me on this one!

If you are worried about someone taking your stuff. Put some time and effort into where you can park your car safely and visable to everyone at all time. Keep your OEM equipment where it can be seen and keep your aftermarket stuff hidden. My 2 cent.

I have installed many alarms in the past which I have wired additional sirens under the dash of the car as well. If someone tries to break into the car, obviously the alarm starts going off, if they get in, and try to find the brain.. they get a siren in their ear when they peek under the dash, etc. If you have an aftermarket alarm installed on your car and it doesnt go off when a theif gets into your car there is a problem already. DEI offers up to $2500 protection if your alarm was installed by an authorised dealer. Thats more than enough to cover a new headunit.
