Which brands cover remotes with their warranties, I know DEI stuff is generally lifetime, does that include the remote? I have been looking at a Galaxy alarm and it has a lifetime warranty as well... What if any brands warranties cover remotes?

DEI remotes should only have a 1 year warranty. Remotes are not generally covered by lifetime warranty due to the abuse that they usually see.

Fair enough, and good to know too. Thanks Auex. As far as installation wise any reccomendations for a remote start/alarm combo? I'm looking at the Galaxy Color screen unit, as well as an Astra and a compustar. Any thoughts?

And I've heard conflicting opinions on whether or not its better to have integrated relays in the brain itself. What do you think?

Well I prefer DEI alarms personally, I have never had any real problems with them. Compustar also has a very good reputation and alot of people on this board like them as well.

I agree with auex and velocity the remotes do not have warranty do to the unknown abuse the remotes might go thru.

Thanks a lot guys, I am liking the compustar for their remotes, but DEI stuff for its quality... I guess it will all come down to which one i can get the best deal on.

Well I never used compustar but know that they make a quality product, I am a big DEI suporter (btw clifford is DEI so their warranty is the same as viper) and as for Astra, the only use I have for their products is I use them to relieve frustration by beating the shhh out of them, and for the record my frustration is usually caused by their products. Astra is flat out crap. And Galaxy and Astra is the same thing

for some reason, the ASTRA777 remotes had a bad, bad run at the beginning of the year.  about 50% of them went bad for whatever reason...not necessarily user abuse.  i say about 50% b/c when i thought all hope was lost on those remotes, i've had customers stop back in with perfectly fine astra777 remotes.

the galaxy 2-way LCDs seemed to have been much, much more durable.

OhioMike has the color galaxy LCD.  a little difficult to see the holographic color screen in direct sunlight.  but the remote has held up fine for the last 3 months or so...prior to that, he had the GALAXY LCD which is currently in use in another vehicle.

we've since switched to the Autopage units and (knock on wood) haven't had ANY of those remotes failed yet.

It's pretty much down to the compustar and the galaxy now... I love the range on the compustar models but i also really like the color remote, pretty trick... What kind of range can i expect from The galaxy?

O and thanks everyone for your opinions, they have all been greatly apreciated. I still havent totally ruled out DEI but the only cost effective route is ebay and that voids the warranty.

Just keep in mind that there is a damn good reason for them having a higher price tag. Its the same reason why a Bimmer has a higher tag than a Hyundai Accent

That is definately true. If i do end up buying DEI it will definately be from ebay... I can buy 2 units for the cost of buying one from a dealer.

only reason to justify the price tag of DEI would be the tech support that comes with being an authorized dealer.

but as for the actual hardware, the stock RS855LCD runs circles around the stock 791xv! (not talking about channel expansion, bitwriter, etc.)
