2002 Ram Keyless entry Remote Start

I have a couple of questions

1.  Has anyone figured out the correct relay configuration for the relay for the door locks?

2.  Having trouble with getting the parking lights to flash, currently only the dash flashes when doors unlocked.  If I leave the key turned to the on position, I get the dash and headlights to flash.

3.  Remote start not functioning I got it to crank a few times, wouldn't start so I hooked the tach to the spark plug wire, still wouldnt start but cranked.  Moved the tach wire to original location, now wont crank and lights wont flash nothing.

Any help is greatly appreciated.

• 1. Use WHITE/ GREEN through a 830 ohm resistor and a (-) pulse ( OR if this is not working use 560 ohms ) for lock
• Use the same wire for UNLOCK but use either 320 ohm resistor or (2) 249 ohm resistors wired in parallel. No need for relays , but if ground signal is not strong enough from the RS unit you will require to use 2 relays to boost signal.
• 2. Use the (-) trigger light flash wire VIOLET / YELLOW at the light switch with a 500 - 1000 ohm resistor. Relay required to reverse the polarity and this wire turns on the parking and headlights.
• 3. There are 2 ignition wires as well as 2 accessory wires that all need to be hooked up in order for the 2002 Ram truck to start and have the heater/AC work as well. Relays required for the 2 secondary wires.

I just did one of these again today, and I finally wrote a few things down.

There's a boatlaod of ignition wires.  You have to power up more than usual, but not ALL of them.

Pink/black and RED / white are constant power.  And so is BLACK/ orange, although since it's a small-gauge wire, I wouldn't tap into it.

A smaller blue wire is the main ignition--you need to activate this to remote start the truck at all.  Second ignition is red, the same size as the blue wire.

The large green accessory wire powers the fan.  The small orange wire allows the ABS and airbag lights to turn off---it tests as an accessory wire, but you can also power it as an ignition if you need to for whatever reason.

The BLACK/ white powers the radio; I didn't need it for remote start.

Parking lights:  I could never find a resistor value that would reliably do parking lights only---the headlights would often come on too.  DEI's Techsoft says you need to use an outboard relay to interrupt the factory parking light wire, and THEN trigger it with the resistor.  I think it's far simpler just to run a positive wire under the hood, and catch the standard BLACK / YELLOW parking lights wire coming out of the underhood fuse box.

I used the GREEN/ orange factory arm/disarm wire for the locks---it's the wire that tests by turning the key in the door.  It worked great, and turned on the factory domelight supervision too.  You do need a unit that will put out a double pulse, though.  And I usually don't need to use relays.  Attach a slightly-smaller-than-called-for resistor to your unit's lock and unlock outputs.  Put a diode after each resistor.  Attach the other ends of the diodes to the car.

securinu--- you're right about using the relays on the doorlocks---we've had some comebacks too; particularly the unlock wire on Rams.  It seems to me that if it calls for a high resistance, like say, 800 or 1500 ohms, you can get away with it...... but if it wants 200 ohms or so, it's going to come back.  I talked to our other guy at work who does Chryslers all day, and he says he's now using relays for both lock and unlock on the Ram.

Another update, as I worked on another Ram yesterday.  If it doesn't have a factory alarm, you're not going to be able to use that arm/disarm wire, even if you can find it, for just doing the locks.  You can easily test for this....... if the doors lock and unlock when you twist the key in the door, then this will work for you...... if not, use the standard WHITE/ green wire that tests off the switch.

another way to tell if it has an alarm is

1) it has to have a grey sentry key

2)in the guage cluster @ bottom right there is a led that will flash when doors are locked and closed
