Hi all,

Going to be installing a CrimeStopper in my Toyota Supra. I'm no expert at aftermarket alarms, but am competent with crimpers, soldering guns, schematics, etc.

If I get the drift of what the experts (here) say, it's the install that makes or breaks a system. Sounds reasonable.

My question, to do a "like-it-came-from-the-factory" install, I'd like to use factory OEM wire sleaving. You know the stuff, it looks like heat shrink tubing, but no shrinking. Kindda looks cheesy, but definatly stock. And does a great job protecting the wires from heat, abrasion and chemicals. Used extensively in the engine compartment. Comes in black and grey - at least from Toyota. I've seen other cars with this stuff from the factory as well.

The Toyota parts counter guy was no help (surprise!). Does anybody have a source on this stuff? I'm just an expert on Toyotas, so I don't know if Honda, VW or any other carmakers has this stuff.

What do you guys do?

use electrical tape, it also works wonders for band-aids when you cut yourself.

but seriously i dont know off hand where to get that stuff, but if i were to look i would start with an electrical parts supplier.

Use different size split loom on all the harnesses under the dash. The split loom size will depend on the thickness of the harness. Then wrap the split loom in hockey tape from a sporting goods store. Hides everything good, and hockey tape can be a real pain for a thief to remove.

You will be able to find that same looking material like the factory stuff at an electrical store. Rather than speading your money on it get yourself some good black electrical tape. It will do the job. As advise from the expert and pros. above, if you hide everything real well it will make the thief's job that much more difficult to do.

Nope. I checked with the two largest electrical supply stores in our city. Nothing.

The Waytek stuff (I have their catalog) isn't really what I want. Although I'm investigating their vinyl tubing. That's more what I'm looking for.

Pencil, although I understand the desire to hide wires, they will be visible somewhere? Wouldn't wires wrapped in tape stick out as singularly unique?!

what diameter and lengths do you require? harley davidsons use vinyl tubing on their bikes. a good parts guy would be able to get/find what you need. i 'm pretty sure you can purchase in multiples of one foot although i may be wrong. could be pricey though. just a though.

Sound much easier than it is. You may want a factory looking system but it will require 5+ hours to get everything taped and heat shrunk. And I don't suggest you go to the dealer for anything type of aftermarket questions!!!!!

I am not so sure of your intention and desire of a factory look is, but it will require lots of time as suggested. Unless you are bring your car to a show to showcase your skills you are wasting your time on making it factory looking.

Yes, you are correct that for someone who is unskill with the use of an electrical tape their work will stand out just a bit. However, depending on your skill level you can achieve a uniform factory look through out with another roll of electric tape.

Had a friend of mine who did his alram wiring up in that yellow tubing. MAde it look like the factory air bag wiring.

Long story short - his car was broken into and the thief tried to cut all the wires to disable the alarm - never once touched the yellow tubed ones. Ended up not getting the car.
