I have installed an Audiovox AX-900 2-way security system with remote start into my 2002 Saturn SL. The tach wire has been installed (onto a non-common colored wire on an injector after other methods would not allow for tach programming) and programmed to the unit. However, I have encountered an issue. The car will crank under remote start, but almost immediately it will die, and then the unit will attempt to restart the vehicle. My vehicle does not have the GM VATS system in it, and all wires and connections have been thoroughly tested. The only thing that I can think of is that I am not using the Ignition 2 Output wire, but that is because my vehicle does not have a second ignition wire, so that should not be the problem. I have tested the hood-pin and the brake safety. I made sure to connect the Starter Output on the vehicle side of the Inhibit relay, but on the ignition side of the neutral safety switch. I cannot make any sense out of this, because everything was installed carefully and works as it should, except the car will not stay running. If anyone can help, it would be very much appreciated!!!

Every one of those saturns that I have done has had a second ignition and has had passlock II so unless you had one specially made for you I'm pretty sure you'll have to power up a second ignition and will have to bypass the passlock II. Try just putting the key in the ignition and turning it to the run position then remote start it. It will probably start and stay running. If it does then one or both of the things I mentioned earlier is the problem. Also two quick notes on that car. If you have a flat metal key it doesnt mean that you do not have passlock II. The resistance that the car needs to see in order to turn the fuel system on is built into the key cylinder not the key. The purpose of this will prevent someone from hotwiring your car. If they just manually turn the key cylinder, ie break it, then the car would probably start (not sure on that I've never tried it). Also you usually have to power up the keysence wire during remote start to keep the service light from turning on.

G'luck

oh yeah one other thing if you put the key in the ignition and turn it to the run position, remote start it, and it stays running take the key out. If the car stays running and the climate control stays on then that means you need to bypass the passlock II system. If the car shuts off then you need to power up a second ignition and bypass the passlock II system. The wires for the passlock II will be either black, yellow, and white or ORANGE / black, yellow, and RED / white. The ground will be the black or ORANGE / black and the one with the resistance you need is the yellow. The other wires (the white and RED / white) will help you I.D. these wires.

OK, first off thanks for the reply! I tried what you suggested and found that the car will start as you said with the key at the Run position. I was able to take the key out of the ignition and the car remained running, with the AC running and my sound system going as well... Not to argue or anything, but I rechecked the DirectWire website I have access to where I work, and it says my car doesn't have a second ignition wire... but from what you suggested and the results, a second ignition wire shouldn't be a problem. Anyway, I am unfortunately still new to the area of installing security systems... So is there a particular way to bypass the Passlock II system? And you mentioned powering the keysense wire... if you could please fill me in on what I need to do, I'd definately appreciate it!

The tech sheet I have says that 12v is red, ign1 is pink, ign2 is green, acc is org, and starter is yellow. Anyways, in order to bypass the passlock you will need a bypass kit which you can pick up at your local Circuit City , Best Buy, or Tweeter. The part number is DEI 555L or whatever the shop has for an equivlant. Install directions will be included with the piece. As for the keysense wire it is lt. green and you can ground it during remote start via a ground when running wire off the brain (usually blue or blue/white).
