Any body know where the tach and netrual safety switch is for a 97 chevy cav. The 12 volt wiring data base has the tach as white at the PCM on the passanger fender, but I can't find squat. Also need to know if and where the neutral safety switch is. These are the only two wires I need, I'm using a avistart 3000 with a dei 555L module, also need to know where the bulb check wire is on the same car. This thing is driving me nuts.

The tach wire is the white wire in the wire loom that passes over top the transmission on the driver's side of the engine. The loom runs towards the back of the motor and there is only one white wire in it. If the car is an automatic you need not worry about the neutral safety switch, as the car won't start unless it's in park or neutral. The switch is probably part of the transmission. The bulb test wire is the thin black wire in the black plug of the ignition switch. It's the only black one. The white plug in the ignition switch has two small blacks.

Can you tell me the best way to get to the tach wire?  Also, the vehicle won't start when the key is in it and not in park or neutral, I'm bypassing all that for the RS so the neutral switch would still need to be hooked up for safety reasons.

The wiring diagram this site only says that the tach wire is white and located at the powertrain control module.  I need to find both the tach and the neutral safety switch, and can't find the dang PCM.  These are the only two wires left for me to find to get this thing up and running.  Somebody clue me in please

look for a big loom running along the front of the engine... you should find the tach wire in there, be sure to meter it it....   neutral safety wire hooks to ground thru the supplied toggle switch for all DEI product......

The toggle switch is only there to disable the remote start by not letting it see ground, basicly it acts like an on or off switch for the remote start.  I need to find the factory neutral safety switch on the car that sees ground when in neutral or park and nothing when the car is in gear, this is done so that the remote start system will not work if the car is in gear.

is it an automatic or a manual? if you read the install guide that comes from DEI they state that if the car cannot be started in gear ( all automatics ) to hook the BLACK/ white neutral safety wire to ground thru the supplied switch... if it's going on a manual tranny vehicle you need the 688M DEI module......

Ok got the remote start to work with the help of all your information.  Now I have just one problem.  The headlight indicator comes on when I put the car in gear instead of the daytime running light indicator comming on.  Then when I turn the headlights on the headlight indicator goes off.  All the other turn signals and lights work great but this.  I disconnected the wire from the parking light relay but it still does it.  Then I unpluged the headlight switch and the daytime running lights still come on with the headlight indicator still comming on.  Does the daytime running lights circuit have something to do with part of the ingintion?  Should I isolate all the wires from the heavy satilite relay to the ignition wires?  Anybody else run into this?
